I'm working on a couple of custom choppers based loosely on my #3 that I posted a couple weeks back. (my avatar)

These will end up a bit differently, the top one is going to get a convex grind on both sides and a choil.

The bottom one is going to be a straight up chopper, chisel grind. The handle will get slimmed up a bit.

These are both huge, around 12", as big as I can fit in the kiln!

Awesome. Subscribed.

I'm anxious to see the chisel grind around that square-ish belly...sounds difficult!

I'm thinking these should have product testing photos when you're done!

I should have explained that, it will blend to a convex in that area for maximum coolness/chopping.

Does anyone have a small car that needs a sunroof?

Thanks M3mphis.

Daniel,

These look incredible so far. The pattern is incredible!

@M3mphis...the one on the top is going to have a convex grind so be prepared for the awesomeness!

Glad to see you here Tony and happy you like it.

I'm going to change up the one I was going to put a chisel grind on, it will most likely be convexed for full on chopping.

My KMG small wheel came in last night, I was so amped I went out to use it at 8pm.
what needs a choil... lol
I couldn't find anything that really needed a choil so I wouind up grinding a kiridashi instead. I was hand sanding it for about an hour until I realized how ridiculous that was and came in. Man that small wheel is cool. :D

Progress! I feel good about this convex/appleseed grind, it is going to chop like crazy.

Daniel,

That looks awesome. Your skills are impressive! I go camping just about every weekend so I'm gonna be posting pictures of it in action as soon as I receive it.

Can't wait for more pictures!

Tony

Sorry, I knew it was a convex grind, just wanted to know if the plunges were intentional. Convex grinds and plunges past the spine are not mutually inclusive in my experience.

I'm sorry, I missed a very important word in my last reply - Convex grinds and plunges that extend past the spine are not always mutually inclusive, in my experience.

More progress!

Full convex grind, this is a beast!

The spots are just some green chrome compound on the blade, I like to put it on the cork belt for a second to get a decent reflection, you can really see the lines that way.

and the initial, initial inspiration

This isn't mine, my Dad used to have one and I was trying to make something like I remembered. I guess it is close considering I haven't seen one in 15 years until today when I tracked down this photo.

I like the one with the fillet blade Daniel.

Very sleek and a cool gripping angle on it. Should be nice for some fish prep.
