chopper material

I have a pseudo tomahawk/hammer/axe/chopper design done up that is very simple. i designed it to work out of a piece of scrap 5160 i have. woudl 5160 or 1095 be better suited to this?


and where hte heck can i get 5160 heat treated? ive got a couple things now i need to get done haha


edit--btw i woudl really appreciate a source for 5160 heat treat..i have 2 iffy blades (first ones ground) and this I'd like to get treated

I'd go 5160. www.petersheattreat.com will do it. Contact Brad Stallsmith and tell him Erik from Snuff Mouse sent you. Cost $15 per piece or $60 + S&H for up to 20 lbs.

quick edit--what differences would I notice with 1095? can i treat say 1050 and 1095 in one batch? Only reason I am asking is i have some 1095 pieces, and a company loacl that will heat treat large batches for 85 bucks
