Hey guys and gals.
I have been busy lately, I took these pics last week. The choppers were all waiting around for me to test them..some longer than others. I have recently bought or traded for several machetes..these well be tested another day.
For now, I have a BRK&T Golok, MMHW custom short sword, Tram 12", HI Kukri with a 12" blade and hidden tang. Also I tested a Granfur Bruk Forest axe. I wont give you guys to much scientific info..because I have none to give. The Axe was by far the king..but I could have guess this. The Blades are all great choppers.. the Tram came in last..it was just on the light side..so it didnt win, but for its weight..it is a great choice! The MMHWs was a beast..I need to sharpen this one up and see what its made of..its also the longest blade here..16" long, 1/4" at the spine. The blade was flexable and tough.
The Kukri was maybe the best performer all around..as I could control the chops very well. I really like this one..the first HI that I bought is quite a bit bigger..and heavier!! I think that I like this lighter version. I believe this is my favorite chopper right now...but its a close one with the Golok.
BRK&T Golok..great chopper. Light, tough, effective. what I really love about this one is the handle..very nice to handle..it chops well, but it is controlled. I like the sheath as well. Overall..I wasnt sure right as I recieved this one in the mail..but It has really grown on me..and is my "keep it" pile.
AXE!! GB Forest- I am a big fan of this particular axe..I am still gonna get a bigger felling axe..but this one is just right for bushcraft. It fits me, its the length of my underarm...it feels great one handed or 2. It holds a great edge..and the handle is nicely carved. Overall..I couldnt be happier. If I was gonna head out into the bush with an axe ..this one would be it. I took out some pine with it..(dead) and then moved to a big dead Oak that had fallen accross my ATV trail...It took about 30 minutes of careful controlled chops...I didnt want to break the handle..(this dried Oak was HARD!!!) but it beat the tree..and proved that it could handle tough work.
Across the trail!
Note the nicely shaped V in this tree..I love this KUK!
GB and Skookum..great combo!
Choppers before the test.
some knives I had with me..the small one is a Coogler and the last one is my newest MORA
