Chopping Damage

Could unsupported chopping refer to releasing pressure on the handle while chopping and letting the knife absorb all of the shock? Think of hitting a baseball the wrong way with a bat where it stings your hands because you weren't gripping the bat tightly. Think of the difference in shock to an object when it's released a second before being slammed into something versus you hold on on to it. The object has to absorb all of the energy, and energy tends to release at the easiest point if it can't all be absorbed. If you don't let go of it, your hand, wrist, arm, and shoulder help absorb shock.
