chris carraci pendulum.....

Some people here give reasons why they don't think this knife is a great design. Thank God. It actually makes this a DISCUSSION.

Others diss it, with no explanation, and offer no ways to improve it, based upon their "vast experience."

All who diss it, diss it without having used it or talked to the man himself. You all might find, like MTF3 did, that you can only form an opinion if A) you actually have used it and understand how it is used and b) you actually get up off your asses and train as diligently in hand-to-hand. When you get better at H2H than CJ, then you can design the perfect knife for self-defense.

I seriously doubt that any of us on this thread have even remotely the experience and training that CJ Caracci does. TESTED training, repeatedly, in real life-death circumstances. And hey -- he's here, alive and well...so he must know something that WORKS. Go figure. I wonder how many of us can say same. My guess - almost none. Most of us have asses that have permanently taken on the shape of the seat that is in front of our computer. :D

So, all I'm saying is, don't knock it unless you've tried it. Reading about something, written by a third party, ain't enuff info...

And so, I think it looks interesting, and know that a nice curved edge does, in fact, slash well. I'll wait until I get training on its use from him before I shoot my mouth off about the design either way...

BTW, there are hints that a lower-priced production version is on the way soon.

Peace,

Brian.

The Pendulum has a fatal flaw as an edged weapon, and that is its lack of a point. The handle looks marvelous, and I am sure the ergonomics result in a very effective transfer of cutting force, but without the presence of a tip to penetrate thick clothing and otherwise allow effective thrusting, it is not a complete weapon design in my humble opinion. A push dagger or a Szabo folding UUK are better executions of similar principles in my opinion. A PC weapon is an oxymoron in my opinion. Hell on marine mammals though! ;)

All this is only, of course, my opinion. It is also my opinion that knife designs are simple things, unless you screw with them too much, and you don't have to be a professional CQC expert to know what works. Training a few hours a week for five to ten years is plenty. :)

I don't kow about defensive applications, but the design would make an excellent ulu styled skinner.

Yep! Saw a guy at the SECK show with a table full of them, made out of 440C (polished nicely), and handled with stag scales. He was marketing them as whitetail skinners. Almost picked up one; they were less than $100, IIRC. Saw the TK article not TWO weeks later, and was kicking myself that I hadn't bought several. ;)

[ Edit - By the way, they were fixed blade, and I'm pretty sure a bit smaller. But shaped identically. ]

I have forwarded this thread to CJ and everyone can expect his remarks on the design, features, benefits, manufacturing, and price point issues in his post.

Stay tuned... :)

i think its a cool little knife, but G-10 might be better applied on the handle.
