Chris reeve and the movies !

I'm sure there was much more than the final cut of one second. Most movies have a ton of scenes taken out due to time restraints. And just think of all the possible scene redos that could be needed.

Piecing together what I’ve read and heard from makers that have had stuff in movies, some are special purpose and some are spares. The cost of an extra knife is nothing compared to having to wait or come back and re-shoot a scene because something was lost or damaged. Look at the pics Neil posted, some look full profile, but not sharp, while the first two on the left look like the tip is a bit blunted.

Sorry for the pic quality, the originals were none to good and my scanning didn’t help much. I have no idea what happened to the knife. The handle is Tamboti, I think, don’t know what the steel is.

12/15 I have tried to re-do the scans at a higher resolution, larger size, and other wise clean them up.

When are you get it?
Thanks.

I’ll try and re-scan, now that finals are over I have time to try and clean them up.

Taichook, The knife is not mine, I don’t know if Chris held on to it or sold it. In the 1990’s I worked for Gfeller Casemakers, the company that makes Chris’s sheaths. The date on the envelope the pics are in is July 1995. I’m sure it was a rush job, I probably snapped a couple of pictures in our shop before delivering it to CRK, so bad lighting, my poor photo skills, and hurrying gets the results you see.

It was in two scenes of the movie I believe. First he uses it to cut the cab driver loose from the steering wheel, which would require a sharpened knife. Then in the club, he stabs a bodyguard in the leg, which is where the dull and half blades would be used.

Someone should go through the trouble of compiling a list of all recognizable knives used in movies. I noticed the other day that the bride uses a SOG Desert Dagger in Kill Bill.

As I remember that knife it was made for the movie Heat but it was never used in the movie. I don't remember how many were made but it wasn't a lot. They came with a letter about the knife and a sheath.

Here is a pic of the actual knives that Tom Cruise used.

The studio returned them to CRK afterwards.

Only a couple of the knives were actually sharp. The rest were dull or half-blades.

I really liked the movie.

Regards, Neil

Wow I've seen this movie more than once and never noticed! I can understand dull blades but why half blades? I'm surprised Mr. Tom "Diantics" Cruise didn't keep one for himself, I know I would have even if I didn't know anything about knives. Did you know Cruise isn't his real last name? I just learned it.

That was a long time ago, but I’m guessing 1/4 inch stock. Even in the larger pics its hard to tell, there are 2 deep hollow grinds on each side of the blade and iirc the top had a nice swedge. I don’t know how many were made, we didn’t too many of the sheath style in the pics, they were a pain to make detail wise and as I recall they didn’t have either Chris’s logo or the Gfeller stamp.

Old thread but also just started the LONG journey of watching the "24" series and
at least in Season 6, just started it, the bad guy stuck what appeared to be a Sebenza
into Jack's left shoulder where he says is a nerve bundle...too bad it was the bad guy
that had it!

G2

a close friend loaned me his seasons of "24" we don't get the station that broadcasts that
show so I've never seen any of them. Took some vacation days and have blown through
seasons 1-5, starting 6 now, hooked is the word.

BUT, this show isn't like many others, as it's all one day events, so to me, it's like a REALLY
long movie, as each episode connects to each other...this is driving my daughter and wife crazy! ;)

This is the only way that I watch TV -- rent the DVDs. Nice when you can just blow through a full season of "24" in a couple marathon evenings, commercial free, isn't it!

Exactly, I can't imagine having to WAIT until the next week or even the next SEASON
to see what will happen next, ugh, that's just not acceptable lol...;)

IIRC two seasons ago on 24 there was a plain regular Sebenza spotted in a terrorists tool box. Shame the bad guys got the good knife.

Incidentally, CRK never authorized the use of the Sebenza on "24". Typically, movie and TV production companies pay manufacturers this courtesy. Chris and Anne were dissappointed.

As a tidbit of trivia, the script for Collateral specifically mentions the Sebenza by name as the knife TC's character should be using. It also specifically mentions the USP45
