I suspect the clock is ticking for many of you right now, and don't be surprised if most of you get karate-chopped to the neck hard by supermods if this keeps up. Just a prediction of my own volition....

You are right no point on stirring the pot any longer, it's going to be the more of the same thing.

The testing will continue until the morale improves. (or something like that)

My "job" is advocating logic and reason in all things. I draw the line at pointless abuse of a tool for the sake of destroying it. This proves nothing. The fact that people are using these stunts to draw conclusions about the work of the manufacturers and makers involved does everyone a disservice.

You've only succeeded in proving that you are ignorant of the benefits of destructive testing as well as its purpose.

And it is both unreasonable and illogical to believe that you speak for everyone when you claim these tests are doing everyone a disservice. Clearly many people both support and approve of these tests. The fact that you fail to see any benefit does not mean that others do not.

The purpose and benefit of destruction testing certainly has been misunderstood, but the misunderstanding is on the part of the supporters of such "testing." That is the crux of the argument. These stunts have taken on a life of their own; people are using them to form conclusions about knives and, in so doing, are revising to unrealistic levels their expectations of a given knife's performance. This does the industry and those who patronize it a huge disservice.

It would only seem to hurt the manufacturers of the knives that break prematurely (who market their knives as "hard use").

It certainly hasn't hurt the manufacturers of the knives that lasted longer.

Your argument is flawed.....

Thanks for the heads up. It is now time to ring the final bell on this amish rake fight. I bid you all adieu.

Because these knife-breaking stunts are unscientific and generally not reproducible with any degree of accuracy, and because the sample sizes used are far too small (usually a single knife) to represent anything like a random sampling, no true conclusions can be drawn from them. This renders them largely useless, if somewhat entertaining to some.

As I told before what are you doing is not logic but sophistic - part of rhetoric which actually twist logic upside down. I think it is not really pure sophistic but some practical implementation known as "Trolling". This includes ignoring facts and repeat nonsenses like this one "pointless abuse of a tool for the sake of destroying it".

It is clear that everybody who was initially u nder impression of this fantasy now after seeing video and reading transcript understan that this is not "Noss4 knife smasher destroing knife for fun to put it on YouTube" - because this is clear from first look. But only one here repeat and repeat this ignoring reality.

Once again for you 7th time:

He introduced knive - as A2 thick heavy duty one piece...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0H8EFC26vw

1. Peel apple, (I tests on potato) - shows basic ability to use knife for "fine" thing like food prparation, reasonable test and Project one doing all right.
2. Slice an apple - reaonable test to me - show that blade is bit too thick for fine slicing.
3. Cut 10000 pounf ribbon cutting
4. Control Cutting of 10 000 pound ribbon
5. Cut same with serration
6. Chopping 2x4 - not a good chopper according to Noss4. get some energy to do. not heavy enough...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZ2fT6pL4xQ

7. Cut 10000 ribbon after chopping - cut well no difference on the edge.
8. Batooning firewood hitting with wood - done.
9. Cutting Ribbon after batooning. - less sharp.
10. Tip break test on 2x4 "dig through" - perfect shape after testing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VmWJOAJB5I

11. Tip test on metal - snaped off very tip few mm but no any serious non fixable, compare holes with holes from other knife. Reasonable test for survival knife.
12. Batooning through 2x4 with 3 pound steel hummer

I would say he hit it very gently, defenetely without intention to destroy it with blade about 60 degree to wood) until at 8 minutes it breaks very easy without actually any hard hit and at the different point from where he did hit it with hummer, but near handle. Also it was clearly surprise for Noss4 he did not really expected this.

So is it pointless abuse of a tool for the sake of destroying it?

Thanks, Vassili.

Sometimes I regret that I never got the auto-lock-any-Noss-discussion-thread 'bot working

Locked due to a bunch of reason, not the least of which are a lot of personal attacks
