Chris Reeve Sebenza 21 Small or Benchmade 556-141, which to buy??

I'm not much of a Benchmade guy but I do carry a couple of HK knives made by Benchmade a lot and for their price point they're great. I also carry a small Sebenza 21 2 to 3 days a week and it's a really smooth knife. Since you don't have a Sebenza I'd suggest you get one.

CRK uses Devin Thomas Damascus steel. I don't think he uses S35VN to make it with. I don't know the specs for the hardness, but having two Sebenzas in Damascus I can say that they hold an edge rather well. I'm suggesting a CRK.
My only BM is a 940-121, bought it when I was collecting BM. It's been sitting in the safe for a while. Pulled it out the other day to sell it, the blade is off center big time. Now, I have to find the time to send it back to get it centered again. It was dead center when I bought it. Never had that issue with a CRK. I'm just saying.

I am not sure why some people are saying "a grip is a grip" clearly the materials, workmanship, and price tag makes this pretty much not a griptilian, definitely not the one we all have for $80. If the Sebenza had a cheaper, plastic, little brother would we discount the big boy versions as "oh that's just another sebenza at the end of the day" ? I don't think so.

soulrack223; I have an HK Ally made by BM. I actually really like the knife lol but it helps that I got it for free! I mostly take it camping and places I wouldn't want to ruin my nice knives and I am surprised at how well it has held up. In 4 years of use it looks almost new, the AUS8 coated steel hasn't rusted once, and for some reason the black coating all over the knife won't scratch at all even though it looks like the same coating as on BM cheap pocket clips which scratch off super easy.

Ajack; I know the damascus isn't s35v, most damascus blades don't list its compounds usually there are at least several. Why would your blade be off center on its own? Even the oil drying out or somehow a shim drying shouldn't cause that. the 940-121 is a great knife! I would scratch up that aluminum very fast I am super clumsy.

Don't have a clue as to why it is off center. I'm hesitant to adjust it myself, not familiar with the axis lock.

I'm flabbergasted as to how much that benchmark cost. Honestly it looks like a $40 knife from bass pro.

I would go Benchmade, I have come to swear by my Benchmades.. the only chris reeve folder I have used was a sebenza that my friend owns, it was kinda a slow release in comparison to my Benchmades and my friend even said he had tried to adjust it but just couldn't get it to be as smooth as the Benchmade.. sebenza is a good knife but I feel the Benchmades I have had are at least as good if not a little better for a lot less $.. IMHO

That Benchmade all the way. First off, its super rare. It won't be around for long, whereas I'm sure you can always find a CRK down the road. If you dont like the framelock, it will honestly drive you crazy adjusting to it. I love knives, but when I carry anything outside of Benchmade, I always miss that stellar one handed closing at the flick of the wrist. Also another major factor: blade steel. Not many knives have M4, and certainly not many *small* knives have M4 in them. I've never owned anything that cuts better than M4 - and I have damn near all the major steels in various knives and even some weird designer steels. I've handled that particular Benchmade quite a bit, and I loved it. It was so comfortable and the F&F was perfect. I also think its awesome looking. It definitely catches people's attention without being gaudy. Only reason I dont own it is cuz someone with more money than me swooped it up lol. So yeah, that Benchmade all the way

I love benchmade, but i love sebenzas more and I trust the sebenza lock over time more than i do the axis lock. Less moving parts that can go wrong if you know what I mean. Given how the axis lock has springs.
