chris reeve sebenza is unreal

I'm sure it invalidates the warranty.

I thought about it when I had mine done, but in the 7 or 8 years that I have had the first sebenza, I've never had a warranty issue, I expected that I would not have any future warranty issues either.

About the BM Axis lock, I'm sure it is strong but a little pressure backward on the lock buttons and the lock easily comes unlocked. What if in the process of stabbing someone his jacket pushed back a little on the buttons of the Axis lock? I think the frame lock is a more secure system. Even Strider has gone to the frame lock for their SnG and SMF.
By the way, I like Benchmade knives with the Axis lock.

I haven't ever stabbed anything like that, so who knows. :) I find it unlikely that the Axis lock would be released by the buttons hitting someone's coat. I'd think the thumb studs would hold away any fabric and you'd really have to be stabbing them deep and hard, through a thick coat, to ever get the release buttons close to touching.

Another plus to the AXIS lock is the blade can be closed without putting your fingers in the path of the closing blade. You have to put your fingers in the path of the closing blade with a frame lock, or liner lock, to disengage the lock. Also when you hold an Axis lock knife your fingers or hand are never touching the release. With a frame lock, liner lock, or lock back there is always a part of your hand that is against the release.

That was my thinking when I had it done :D

Btw, I've stabbed my regular Sebenza into sheets of carbord to were it wouldn't go through. My hand didn't slip at all.

In response to Wade's post, I just tried to force my small sebenza to unlock by rotating the handle counterclockwise. I gradually let my index finger take more of the pressure and was only able to unlock my sebenza in this manner but only after I had all my hand pressure on my index finger and much pain. I have heard about this test/concern before with frame locks and I test all my knives. Some frame locks do "fail" this test but not my sebenzas. I trust mine completely. YMMV, due to different hand sizes etc.

That would be a shame - a top notch maker like Mayo doing something good on a knife that invalidates the warranty. I would figure it would improve things and lengthen the warranty.

I would imagine that CRK would fix it if something went wrong that was not caused by the modifications.

Hey, they can issue consecutive life sentences, can't they?

I wish I hadn't read this thread... My check wallet light just came on. :(
