Today I christened my new fire pit. The old one had been in place for 20 years but because of changes and expanding the yard it needed to be moved. I was so happy I found my fire steel that I thought I had lost I decided to use it and the Bushfinger to do the honors.

There is still snow on the frozen ground, and it's still damned cold outside so I didn't play around. I whittled some shavings from some frozen fatwood...

and two sparks later I had flames...actually I had flames on the first spark but didn't realize it till I had already started the second strike...

Transferred the bark base to the pit and started adding fuel.

and soon had the first fire in the new pit courtesy of Fiddleback Forge and Going Gear,

As for answering your question Russell, I suppose it's all in the little details of the handle. Where the handle meets the blade it stops in the perfect spot for me no matter which grip I have it in. And the radius to the handle/blade relationship is perfect for not making my wrist uncomfortable...ever, whether I'm cutting, whittling, or boring holes.

And the contouring of the handle works out perfect for my uses as well.

The handle is just the right diameter that my fingers never get cramped.

And just the right length.

Andy asked just the right questions on size of my hand, and it just worked out fantastic. I simply couldn't be happier with the knife.

Thanks Brian. I appreciate that you even took the time to snap and post pictures illustrating your points before responding . Even though our hands are probably different in size and/or shape, as always, your pics speak volumes. Ah...Bushfinger, definitely next on the list :D I might even hold out for a 1/8" one, since I'll have a Hunter at 5/32"....

And congrats on the new pit and finding the firesteel :)

Hey, no problem Russell, I thought pics would help

The Bushfinger is awesome, I want the H.B. I get to be 5/32 for sure...I may go 1/8 on the Recluse or another model though before it's over with. Thin blades worry me though...

Thanks man, I nearly jumped for joy when I found the fire steel lol.

Yeah...it was odd moving the fire pit, but I like the new location pretty well.

Mist, remember the post from this morning . . . one good turn . . . Voila, looked what turned up again . . :) Karma, man, either you believe it or you don't.
Nice shots of the Bushfinger. That knife looks like it would even fit my paws. I had p/m Andy regarding some of his knives, probably will be some heading to Ohio after the first of the year. Nice shots & always greatful for the explanations along with them. Thanks for sharing some good personal knowledge with us.
Be safe.

Oh, I definitely believe in karma man, seen it in action too many times not to

I'm glad it showed back up :)

Thanks man, glad you liked the post.

I'm disappointed - it's a great looking knife but not much of a fire :o

Oh...well that's just because I put the camera up for a while. By the time I was done it filled the ring  .

Man, I love the patina on that knife.

I love the patina on the Natural Canvas! That stuff is kinda like Osage, just gets richer looking with use.
