Christening the new Fire Pit & Answering Russell's Question...

I love the patina on the Natural Canvas! That stuff is kinda like Osage, just gets richer looking with use.

It does get better with age, doesn't it. Every time I see a new pic of this Bushfinger I marvel at how much nicer it looks than in the pic before. This particular Bushfinger seems to be taking on a mythical air. For Andy it is the knife that launched a thousand more.

Andy, will you ever make another Bushfinger just like it? And I mean JUST like it... from the materials, the colours, to the proportions, measurements and shape of the blade and handle. It seems to me that a lot of the newer Bushfingers you've been making don't look like Mistwalker's. I'm referring mostly to the blade. The newer ones look more broad, not as long and sleek. Is it just my perception?

I think Andy did redesign it slightly, although I can't recall the thread where he confirmed it. As far as the design/dimensions, Mistwalker's is pretty much a one-off...at least, that's my understanding.

I dont know if he redesigned it or not but I know that Mist is Numero Uno! So there is a large possiblity that there was a redesign somewhere.

congrats on the new fire pit. i love setting them up and making a fire, then hanging out by a nice warm fire.

but the biggest plus to this post was that you didn't rub your fiddleback machete in our faces again. thanks we appreciate that :)

My Bushfinger looks a little different from Mist's Bushfinger. I think I era where Andy lost the design to Mist's Busfinger so he redesigned it a little for the better. That means mine is better than Mistwalkers.:D

Yes, Andy did do a slight re-design on it. I don't remember the exact threads, but he added in a little width at the pommel end of the handle to make it just a little more full, and he added in just a bit of width to the blade. Andy wanted to make the Bushfinger all its own design and less like the Ladyfinger it evolved from. Also from what I have seen Andy is a passionate perfectionist when it comes to the comfort, balance, and over-all functionality of his designs, and the first proto always gets some tweaking. Plus...the dimensions on this one were adjusted to my hand in particular when we first discussed it. I have large-ish hands but short fingers. For the comfort of many the handle would need to be a little fuller and I am sure that's what he did on the production model.

I know this is the first one and all and that makes it very special to me, but I fell in love with that dyed Maple handle in the last batch, I hope to get one like that with the same bolsters some day. That handle was just stunning.

I don't mind you telling yourself that if it makes you feel better, but mine is still the very first one :D

Man that is a nice knife.

Thanks Tal, I think so too!

One thing just dawned on me...the fact that this one looks a lot more stream lined may be the patina. Darker colors absorb light and have a natural tendency to make things look smaller while the new ones are still bright and reflect a lot of like making them look bigger. Yes he did add some width to the blade on later models, but maybe not as much as it appears....won't know for sure till I can afford another one to compare it to :)

Hmmm...uh oh...I have a feeling the next post I do with a Fiddleback will be the machete. I stopped doing posts of both and started alternating :)
