Christmas came early!

Which is, when one considers the HUGE amount of fixed blade knives in use at any given moment (yes, I'm talking about kitchen cutlery), MORE than ignorant. The average adult uses a "fixed blade" knife every single day of their lives - even if they don't think of it that way. Scouts would do well to address that, IMO - but I've got two daughters, so I'm addressing it myself with them. Of course, I'd never encourage them to buy 24 of the same kind of knife, unless they were running a cooking school or similar. I've realized I'm kind of a pack whore; even I don't have that many places to stash that many 17's.

OP got these for $30 each. Then came in here to brag about it. His right to by anything he wants but then rubbing it in our faces is poor form.

For all we know he could be the guy now selling them for. $60 something in the other link. Would be good profit but no worth the headache to me.

Yeah...all of us who were told Wed 11:59 got screwed.
They opened it up Tues night. Then shut it down.
That's why everything was gone... everything...

Yep. I was going to grab a couple of the 17's with the deal, but when I went to look, they were gone. At least now I know where.

What is the point of this thread?

raw

How I took it. Or maybe the OP was surprised kabar came through with all those knives at that price and thanking them? Knkw I was surprised to hear they left them on site for the 1/2 off deals.

Yea I agree. And if you look at the Scouting handbook even for leaders, their position is they neither encourage or discourage the use of a sheathed knife. They say they are committed to teaching scouts to select the correct and safest tool for the job, which in my opinion is very often a fixed blade. The knife skills training includes all forms of safe blade handling. Some specific events ban fixed blades, but for what reason I couldn't say. I would guess it is heavy on the tradition of the Scout pocket knife, and possibly some Scout uniform dress code issues.

What was the price on these after the deal, anyways?

IMHO, it was bad form on the OP's part to brag about these. It is not in the spirit of this forum. Perhaps that wasn't his original intent but that's how it appears to me at least.

Having said that, it was his right to buy them although I do not understand why Kabar released them early as I was also hoping to buy one or two like other people.

no idea since it seems ka-bar started the sale a day earlier than posted but cut it off at some point and started it again at the posted time but these were all gone along with the large micarta scales and probably a bunch of other stuff...

Yeah I'd been hoping to grab some large micarta grips. Disappointing not to see those...

I don't understand the purchase of all of them either. I can only think it's for flipping them all. Feels like I'm in the spyderco thread and an exclusive just came out.

I would like a 17 myself someday. Hope the OP enjoys his.
