Christmas Eve dinner

Thank you Ed.
Don't forget the fried calamari like we did!

I guess we can do that for New Years...but tradition calls for lentil soup (yech) and herring (yum) at midnight.

After being sick all day Saturday, and most of the day Christmas, I had some rice with pepper. Tonight my family will have our Christmas dinner.

ham
kielbasa with sauerkraut
homemade stuffing
yams
sweet potato (for me, I hate canned yams)
turkey
corn
green beans
potato salad

Lentil soup is good but I prefer it with plentiful scraps of pot roast shredded into it, and it really needs mushrooms ...

Tastes vary. Food habits vary tremendously. In Russian class, we learned the word for herring. One guy asked, but what's 'herring'?

I will accept tomato herring, but I prefer it in sour cream with lots of sliced onion.

We got together with a couple of other familes and somebody brought one of those chickens inside a duck inside a turkey ... (I've forgotten what those are called) that are put together down in Louisiana.

Razz

Turducken. Also popular in the UK for the last few years. One of the TV chefs did a 12 bird roast which weighed about 22 lbs. Turkey, goose, duck, chicken, pheasant, guinea fowl, right down to a little sparrow or something :D

Shrimp with Garlic, Olive Oil and Parsley over Linguine.
:D

For Christmass Eve dinner almost the exact same thing....Shrimp Scampi.

For Christmass Day, (for the second year in a row) Osso Buco w/Orrzo. If I had a last meal wish this would probably be it.

Here's a good recipe for Osso Buco, but I think she left out the garlic.

I add three of four garlic cloves finely minced, after the onions are done and right before I add the tomato paste.

Great minds PhilL!

I've never made Osso Bucco, but now it looks like I will...thanx
:D

Orzo is a great change of pace from the more common pastas. I always keep some around. I've used it in places where I would have used rice, but it tastes much better than rice.

Strangely enough, I had never had orzo. It turned up on my plate in a hospital, with fish and vegetables. Instant hit. I had seen it on the menu and thought it was a strain of rice (oryza in Latin).
