Christmas in August for 8/30

I got the HSK and bonecutter. First time I was able to get anything on a DOTD or in this case Christmas in August. Can't wait to go camping this weekend.

Good luck with your new toys:thumbup:

Guys, don't forget to do a test/field review for our pleasure and yours:)
Don't forget those cameras when going outdoors.

Nope - it's satisal. The stuff can range from bright gold/orange, to deep reds, to walnut-esque browns, and to fairly dark browns and near-black. This one just happens to be very dark... admittedly, I also thought it was horn at first, but after reading the description, I looked more closely and could see the grain and color differences.

yeah, horn has a grain too - esp with white highlights... still looks like horn to me.

the new owner is just going to have to take lots of pictures after they BLO it :>

and i gotta say, that farmer knife is growing on me. if it came as not villager, wood handles, i'd be QUITE enamored. bad time for $$$ but i might have to write auntie someday.

well, my WWII won't get here til I leave for my Salmon River whitewater kayaking trip on Thursday, so I'll have to wait a whole 6 days til I get to fondle the thing. Sigh... Oh well, I have something to look forward to coming back to civilization :D

Yeah, but the white highlights on horn tend to look more like streaks. If you look carefully at the pommel area, you'll see that the grain is a mix of dots and small dash shapes - dead giveaway when trying to spot satisal wood. And I'm agreed - would like to see what it looks like sanded down and with a nice finish of BLO, tung or tru-oil.

Also, many thanks on the comment about the farm knife. I'm sure Aunty would be glad to have one made up for you in the manner you want. So far I've used mine to effortlessly slice stuff up for an omelette (tillamook white cheddar, black forest ham, crimini mushrooms, green pepper, and green onions), hack down a butterfly bush, and chop through a 2x4. I'll probably be posting a review within the week :)

Will do my best...after my field tests are done...can't wait for the postman:D

I hit the refresh key for 15 minutes with the email pre-drafted. All I did was type in what I wanted and hit send... It was about 20 seconds after the post came up. That said, I think it was about 5 minutes before the 2nd one was sold, so I guess it's luck of the draw.
