My wife saw that knife and she loves it! She just commisioned me to make her one. See what ya did Jim:thumbup:

...and on top of that she wants a folding chef knife for camping... Thats good tho because she cant complain im spending too much time on my projects because they are her projects too now:D

Grats on that beautiful Chitlangi ichor! I have one as well in the same length. I love it. Very fast and very beautiful. Welcome back to the forums again.

Thx dog. Years ago, I had a nice Ang Khola but for some, now inexplicable reason, in a fit of nincompoopery, I traded it away.... and regretted it ever since. When I saw this Chitlangi was available, I jumped on it as I had always wanted one of the lighter, faster models. Can't wait. ;')

Congrats ichor... The Chitilangi is a great do all blade. Its more fighter than the Ang Khola but it definitely can handle chopping. I have a 23.5in 40oz bad boy that is one of my HI crown jewels. Please post pics of you have the chance.

Actually, more fighter style is what I originally wanted, but the Ang Khola was being offered at a deal impossible to refuse. As for pics, my camera is in the shop, but I have another on the way, but I'll try.

Welcome to the HI and blade fotum, Ichor
Will ship the Chitlangi tomorrow

WOW!...just, well....WOW!! Postman handed it to me 15 minutes ago. For some reason I had in my mind that the blade would be about 11", not....14 1/2!!!! Jesus, I'd forgotten how massively substantial these are . Nothing worse than waiting for something special, soo...Thanks so much Auntie for sending it so quickly. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. Now....what can I cut??? Ahh....here comes that neighbor with the irritatingly noisy pickup !!! Wonder if he'd like his truck custom chopped and channeled ;')

LoL, I certainly don't know why you don't post more often. You certainly sound like you fit in here EXTREMELY well, first thing anyone here thinks when we get a blade in hand is...What can I cut!?! I am so glad your HIKV has gotten a good fix, perhaps we will be seeing more of you now that your infection is no longer in recession? :D

Well...its good thing I finally got my fill of nice Japanese kitchen knives. For quite a while I was buying at least one per month (Tanaka, Yoshikane, Kanemasa, Shun, Kikuichi, Hiromoto, Kagayaki, Murray Carter, Hattori, Gesshin Ginga, Moritaka, Konosuke, Watanabe, Fujiwara and Tojiro (of course)... won't even get into the customs). My good buddy owns a produce stand less than 30 yds. from my front door. He always knew when I had a new knife cause I showed up and bought 20 bucks worth of carrots, tomatoes, celery, peppers, etc. I had so many diced veggies I was giving them to neighbors. ;')

Id love to see some photos of your kitchen ware! Im just learning of these knives and they are awesome. Im trying my hand at making one now. Ive already deviated from traditional but it was just a practice project anyway.

Devcon works fine for me. I have used it with success.
Id use the 30 minute stuff because it gives you more working time before it thickens. Its hard to get deep down in the cracks with the 5 minute stuff because it begins to thicken about the time you apply it even if it is only a minute and a half.

Yeah this is the 30 minute kind that gives you plenty of time. Camera still on the fritz, so no pics for a while.

BTW, what are the consequences of not treating the crack with epoxy? It's not like it's gonna get any super hard use.

It may (or may not) get worse with temperature or humidity changes. To prevent this keep it hydrated with hooflex or at least mineral oil. Fixing it it pretty simple. Mix epoxy with a few dots of black pen ink and fill. Sand flush and buff.

Heh...I'm unlikely to spend 15-20 bucks on Hooflex.... unless I buy a horse. lol I'll just fix it with what I have. Thanks for the advice, guys.

The Hooflex isn't really for the repair, it's mostly to keep the handle hydrated. Epoxy of your choice first and then mineral oil or whatever.

I have a can of hooflex wife and daughter got for our horses years ago, should last about 20 years beyond forever. I've not used any and don't think they did often either. But I set the jar aside where I can access it. Plan to try it one of these days and see how it acts.

Hooflex works great. Its a bit thicker than mineral oil so you can wipe you collection down and leave it all night and then wipe the excess off the next day or so. It doesnt make such a mess because its thicker and stays on the horn where you put it. Like Bawanna said it will last you for twenty years probably. For budget minded tho mineral oil works fine too. If its just a hairline crack then you might just soak it in min oil and forget repair. Without pics its hard to give proper feedback but thats my general thoughts. Mineral oil can be bought at grocery stores and pharmacies for less than $3 in the laxative section.
