Trying to plan ahead. I need a good suggestion for a knife for my six co-workers. I dont want to break the bank so I am thinking $25-30 a knife. Keep in mind that these fellas arent bladeheads :D so they arent going to appreciate some things that people on this forum would. Pocket clip ok, more traditional slip joint or lock back or liner lock probably ok. So let me hear what you think? Thanks for the suggestions.

I plan on giving 5 of my co-workers the Spyderco Ambitious as Xmas gifts. It's small enough
(2 1/4" blade) that it won't intimidate non-knife nuts and the price is certainly right at $26-$28 bucks.

buck vantage select

p.s. this is the second time i recommended a vantage tonight.

The Leatherman Squirt with pliers. It fit's on a key chain, and has enough tools that it's hard to not find a use for it.

Smith & Wesson CKG107 might be a solid Idea. A relatively nice knife. Liner lock. And pretty damn cheap.

Also the Spyderco Persistence/Tenacious. Is there a length requirement you have to stay under? If someone wants bigger the Spyderco Resilence with a 4.25" blade should fill the need. Though the Resilence is about $35.:)

Btw, great idea to get the Christmas shopping done early!!

I would say SAK would be the best option.

I agree.

I've given away many knives as gifts and by far the best reaction I've gotten has been with the Victorinox SAK / flashlight combo.

SAK was the first thing I thought of too. I like Morrowj's addition of a flashlight too. The Huntsman is a favorite model of SAK for me.

Spyderco Byrd knife which you can get right now on sale very, very cheaply at Cabelas in their Bargain Cave section. I bought a couple of them and for their closeout price and they are a bargain. The cost of each is half of your budget. I would buy them quickly before they run out and hold until Christmas.

Ka-Bar Dozier Folders.
Cheap. Solid. Inoffensive. Lock-back.

It depends on the personalities of the workers. And what the work is. Are they mechanics or masseurs?

I would second the Spyderco Ambitious and the Buck Vantage Knives. I would give a little more nod to the Spydies though. I think as a gift they really would be impressive. They come in a much nicer box than the Buck's and would make someone who's a non-knifey feel like they got something really special. Plus the G10 scales and the fit/finish is pretty awesome on Ambitious/Tenacious/Persistence line.

While the Buck Vantage's are definitely more classic, the Spydercos are different enough for most people that it would be a great gift IMO.
