I have approx. $200.00 to spend on a knife for Christmas. I honestly am perplexed about what to get. I have no knives this expensive. This will probably be my last knife purchase this year. What would you get. I like Spyderco, but I am open to all suggestions. I could fudge on the price a little. I want it for a edc. I'm retired so I will not be abusing it. I like larger folders, 3-5 inches, and it has to be under 5.5 oz. I'd ideally like it under 5 oz. I am going to look at all suggestion and enjoy looking them up on the various shopping sites. Then I will let everyone know what I decide on Christmas Eve. please help me.

If you like Spyderco
At least 50% of the folks here are going to suggest a Spyderco anyways
Why not just get yourself a really nice Spyderco?

If I were you I'd keep an eye out for a new Slysz Bowie on the exchange. I grabbed one for about 220 and it blows every other folder that I have out of the water. I think it makes a terrific edc. 3.3 inch blade and about 4.3 ounces.

Very nice blade. If these were around the $200 mark, it'd be hard to pass up for me.

For recommendations, I guess some Spydies around that price point would be the Southard or Domino. Maybe the Farid K2 (I think) if you want something BIG.

If you like Benchmade at all, how about a 940-1? Seems like that'd be an EDC that'd last a really long time if not abused.

This was going to be my suggestion also. Keep an eye on the trading post and you should be able to find one within your budget or very close to it. I have one and love it. Another option would be one of the great Paramilitary 2 high end models like the S110V, the recent exclusive with orange G10, black blade/hardware and CTS-XHP blade steel or one of the two upcoming sprints with M4 blade steel, one with carbon fiber the other with Jade G10. Lots of great choices out there in this price range. Could also look at the recent Griptilian with G10 and CPM-20CV, classic knife in a premium configuration.

Personally, I don't think you can find a better sub-$200 blade than a Benchmade 710-1401. 3.9" M390, axis lock, 4.5 oz, $180.

^^^I'll check this out.
Also the ZT 0452CF is looking real nice to me, but it's a little over my budget, and I've heard a few people bad mouth ZT. I guess you either love them or hate them. I'm really thinkin' hard about this 0452CF, so what is it about ZT some people hate. At this point it's between ZT or Benchmade. With the Spyderco Millie a close third.

Most of the previous ZT's were big, and tended to be heavy, but their offerings the last year or two have been more geared towards edc vs "hard use" as they are lighter and more pocket friendly.

I agree with Yalius.

A retailer currently carries a Benchmade 710 in M390 with black and blue textured G10. It is within your price range, approximately 4.5 ounces, and an excellent folding blade. I would be happy to discuss it more if you send me an email or PM.

Email sent.

Alright, I've narrowed it down to two knives. I'm going to get either the ZT 0452CF in S30V or the Benchmade 710 1401 in M390. They are similar in size and weight. The decision will be really tough. I don't know if I want another flipper, but I've never tried the axis lock either. So somebody talk me into one or the other.
