Well sent my wife to a local store around here to pick up these Kershaw starter Knives. Today they were 9.99 no limit soi had here get 10 for that price. So it looks like all my buddies will be getting one. I know they are of the China line but just couldn't pass them up.

Not a fan of the 3cr13 steel used in the starter series... Edge holding is nonexistent; Equivalent to 420j, more suited to throwing/dive Knives and axe heads, not "cutting" tools...

Nice of you to think of 'em, and great deal needless to say, but think you coulda done better from a knife dept. Even if not in the cost dept... Buck bantams, Case Caliber and mini Blackhorn, or even some small Opinels or basic Mora's would have been better (cheap/affordable) "Knives" IMHO...

Sorry to sound like a stickler here, not trying to be a d!@%, just, from a knife perspective (on a knife site no less) saying it how I see it... Consider it constructive criticism for future purposes, I'm sure your buddies will appreciate the gesture regardless, and if not great "EDC" Knives persay, they'll serve as good beater blades...

No worries everyone has a right to their opinion. Thats what these were bought for more of a workbench beater knife. I know I have a few laying around that I'll grab to beat up over my edc. And the guys that are getting these I'm sure will do just that with them.

If you were shooting for good cheap beater blades, for the workbench or toolbox. Then you certainly hit the nail on the head :) I keep some of my old chinese made flea market Knives that I acquired over the years buried in various tool boxes and such for that same purpose...
Not to mention, at Christmas time, it's the thought that counts...
(Fwiw-I got a bunch of SAK Classics to hand out as gifts this year, some limited runs up around $20 that fit certain people's personalities, but mostly in basic standard colors and patterns for under $15, so I know where you're coming from in wanting to find "something" nice, yet inexpensive, for those closest to you... It is better to give...)

Yeah the guys that are getting these are guys that carry nice knives and will appreciate a beater knife. Like you I have a few bs knives in various places in the house and property. I thought the same thing for 10 bucks hell I've spent 10 bucks on a meal that was only with me for less than 24hrs lol

that would be good as a last resort in the glovebox knife. i have cheap rambo knife by bed as last resort self defense knife if the baseball bat or pool sticks behond front door are un accessible.

Yeah again I wasn't buying the guys sebs lol it was more of here's a beater and for the price I couldn't pass it up when they open them they will all know they are beaters

Great knife at that price. I would love to see that same design with some 14C28N, G10, and a liner lock.

I know right it's comfortable to hold for sure but the steel is seriously lacking it flips great out of the box and for a beater gotta love the Tanto to pry with

Wish I would have bought my brother this instead of giving him my Blur and 50th anniversary 110 last year. He managed to snap the tip off the Buck and snapped the blade in half on the Blur. No more nice knIves for him

Buy him a dollar store screw driver, problem solved, or teach him that knives are meant to cut things, not plow fields, change tires on trucks, drive screws, smooth just poured concrete etc.

Or a kizlyar supreme Ute, it comes with a little fold out pry tool/bottle opener in the handle (and the blade itself is stout)...

This is a neat idea and i'm sure your buddies will be happy. My brother in law is getting a similar, inexpensive folder for Christmas this year because he abuses everything he owns.

Yeah I took one outta the packaging it's nothing special but will be fun for them.
