I am not a professional.

I'm not even a decent amateur.

Why does the Chromium Nitride Finish on my Microtech MUDT always look like it needs to be cleaned. I have wiped with a Tuff-Cloth and then dried with a cotton cloth. I have done the same with a paper cloth. It looks like it's smudged and dirty.

I feel like doing some interior decorating now.

Try a little Flitz and see what happens, but first remove the Tuff-Cloth with some alcohol. Won't hurt, might work.

Brandon,

The first thing to do is run your fingernail over the blade and see how smooth it feels.

After the CrN is applied it helps the look and feel to polish it a bit. When I worked in the industry we would use a fine brass wheel with diamond paste, even a red scotchbrite pad with a little oil would work great. The results you get will depend on how thick the coating is and how well it was applied. Remember that the CrN is much harder than the blade steel, should be in the low to mid 80's Rc. I would however, check with Microtech to see what they advise so you don't screw up your warranty.
