Charles FOGARTY @ Hillbilly Chuck

Has just passed his journeman smith performance test at Blowing Rock.

You have been keeping a low profile Chuck, time for some pics.

Well done on passing. Good luck on the next step.

Thanks for letting me know it gets me inspired to do a bit better rather than just stay a back yard banger.

Congratulations Chuck! Way to go.

Backyard banger! Reg, your modesty is silly. Forman told me so!

In case you guys don't know it, Reg is a freakin sculptor with steel. He makes some of the coolest blacksmith stuff I've ever seen and I am blessed with an ever growing collection of Ellery originals... :D :D :D Don't let this guy fool you - he's the real thing.

Dave I knew putting you on my publicity pay role was a good move.

With some prodding we may get Chuck to show a couple of his antler handled
knives.

Hey Y'all,

Thanks everyone for the kind words, I'm extremely happy that I have passed this test. Now for Atlanta, if my knives are done by 05 I might do it then if life gets in the way (as it so often does) I'll do it in 06. I think Atlanta is going to be the tougher part of the test, so I am still not out of the shark tank yet. Any advice out there on do's and don'ts for the judging knives?

Dave you are right, I own a few Ellery originals myself and Reg is the real deal under that mild mannered exterior. He is one of the best smiths I have ever known of and does with simple regularity things that give a lot of us fits all the time. He is a true mastersmith who doesn't even need a ABS rating and also one of the best guys you would ever want to meet. Reg is a true friend if there ever was one (even if he does brag you up from time to time against your will :D ).

I don't actually have any pics of my knives on this computer maybe I can get some on here tomorrow or maybe y'all could talk Reg into posting the pics of the knife I just sent him (which he doesn't actually have yet :( thanks to the slow postal system). Or if you want to see some really nice knives get pics of all your own knives up there, I'm a big fan of all y'all's knives, or get Reg to post some pics of Lloyd Harding's knives, way better use of bandwidth than my own modest efforts. I am working hard at it though and I really do appreciate the congratulations.

Chuck I see that Reg has bled off on you just a little bit. :D And now I know he's quietly amassing a nice collection of work by his buddies from the forums. The fox. I agree Reg could do all of us a real service by posting some of his own work here, and by posting some of Lloyd's. I think that's a great idea too. Meanwhile, good luck in your own endeavor. I'm holding out for you.

Good job Chuck...I should run up the hill and see what your working on sometime. Nice to have NC'ers knifeakers so close. Get those images up my friend! :D

Sorry Fellas, I don't seem to be able to post pictures, I had a few good ones too :(

blgoode, I just went to your website and checked out your knives and you are doing some fantastic knifemaking there brother! Damn nice camp knives. I would be happy to get together with you and talk knifemaking anytime. You've got a really nice website too. Are you going to be at the Trackrock hammer-in?

Again, Thanks for all the kind words, I really appreciate them.

Chuck Fogarty

I'll be headed to Tackrock Sat. morning. Hope to be there around 10 or so....

I live in Shelby, NC so I am about an hour from you. Send me an email blgoode@aol.com and we'll get together sometime... I have been lucky to have met all the weirdos here on the forums and they have helped me with my knifemaking :D

If you get images in the computer email them to me and I'll post them for you.
us Rednecks have to watch out for each other!!

I am looking forward to the look on your face when you see my first attempt at a burner....Its never been tested so maybe we can do that? If not no biggie. I'd rather see some hammerin' than tinkerin'!! :D

Chuck Congratz!!!!

Your Dad made the announcement in Chat the other night. I think he's pretty darn proud of you.

Congratulations Chuck! Great job, I know I'll be sweating when it's my turn (that's probabl the true reason for the lanyard on a test knife, huh? ;) . Way to go, can't wait to see some pix when you get a chance.
