Chute Knife question

I was asked to make a chute knife and I believe I can do the blade alright but, I am puzzled on how to make the double guard. Is it machined in 2 pieces and if so, how do you get an invisible seams? The best picture I have of one shows a joint at the scale side so I know the tang isn't slightly smaller than the blade. Is the blade just a bit smaller than the tang? I have never really studied these.

Blade is just smaller than the handle and the guard is slid on fron the front.

Is the full tang and slip on guard a defining feature or can it be a hidden tang knife?

Thanks to both Keiths. Kieth Montgomery for making the thread and Keith H for pointing it out. That is about as great of How To as it gets. I believe I will being doing mine out of D2 also, but, not forged. Jim

It was designed by and for a parachutist, to be used as a survival knife.
