Not sure this is best place for this, but I am looking for some circuit board grip material to send to a custom make for a slipjoint. Old and new together!

I found some posts by Stonehenge99 with the best looking circuit board slabs I have seen anywhere, but he seems to not be very active on the board.

Does anyone know where to get this type of grip material premade? I could get a few boards and some acrylic to make my own, but it wont look like what Stonehenge99 made.

Easiest way would be to get some PCBs without any of the components soldered on. This will be relatively smooth, and about 1/16" thick or so. You could laminate a couple together, or laminate it to something else. If you want something with components on it, you'll have to get some casting resin or similar, and make your own up.

There may be somebody out there making the stuff up already, but the only thing I've ever been able to find is round pen blanks.

I think the sheets that are plane and stacked up would look sweet when the copper layers are ground through. I might have to try this. If you where thrifty you could tin the copper surfaces and basically solder the slabs togather. I think if I try this that’s how I would do it.

I wonder how much the copper would show through? It's usually a pretty thin layer. I'm not sure how well the traces would hold with just solder either, as it'd have to line up with other traces, and they're typically not super strong to begin with.

Got me wishing I'd saved more of my scrap electronics boards now though....

Trey Preslar is periodically active. Not sure if he would sell his "Nerd" scales, but they're some of my favorites.

You could make your own. Contact Polymer Composites in Ontario california. Gerald is the chemist and can point you to the best product for what you want.

Their resin is high impact and super tough, far more then what many are using. Here is a video I did of some I used.

He has several formulations and can point you to the right product.

I'm not sure what a circuit board grip is, unless you mean using it as scales or a handle. That said I did google circuit board grip and found this and thought it was pretty cool. And with some shop magic and a little epoxy might make a cool low cost handle. Probably a one off for a computer friend or something.

Now as far as getting circuit boards goes, I have had some ideas on this for a while since I'm an IT guy. And because of that I have saved a stack of mother boards for me to dissect and use for a future knife, possibly for myself. If you were close to columbus I'd probably have one I'd give you.
