I'm looking for a 5" x 1/8 or 9/64" Bowie style blade, double brass guard, full tang, coffin or similar style wood or stag handle to use in Civil War reinactments. Good blade steel is a prerequisite. Stainless is preferred, but not necessarily a requirement. Price range of $100.00 to no greater than $150.00.

Thanks,

Mike

Well, Mike,

I saw your post had gone unanswered for a day or two, and I figured, "That ain't right." So here I am. Hopefully, there'll be some other guys jump on the 'wagon with me, but I'll be the first!

What kind of time are we looking at for this? I'm working slowly but steadily through a small backlog, but I'd be willing to do this one for you, if there's no super rush. I'm actually just finishing up on a very similar knife for an old teacher of mine, who happens to do the same thing. A buddy of mine gave me a little Solingen Bowie blank, and I figured I'd finish it out for her. That's right, she dresses up as a man for reenactment. If I remember correctly, she's in the cavalry. The thought of that itty-bitty woman lugging and firing a Colt 1860 cap-and-ball brings a wry smile to my face every time I think about it, though.

Still, lemme know, and we can discuss details, if you're interested. I'll try to get a pic of the other knife that I'm working on for demonstrative purposes. Later!

Mike, it's quite a bit bigger than your spec, but Newt Livesay is finishing up a run of Sandbar Bowies that are based on a Civil War piece in the National Museum in Washington, DC. It's within your budget and, as of about a month ago, there were a few pieces from the first production run that were still available. Back to waiting for the big brown truck carrying s/n 6.
