Civivi knives

It is nice to see original designs coming from China with good F&F. I still get the feeling that they aren’t going to last if used hard but many people just use them as letter openers or pocket jewelry so it may not be a problem.

Again, it depends on the comparison class. So for a given model, where does it fail or fall apart versus what other knives with reasonably similar features that wouldn't have?

While I'm a relatively light user with a ridiculously huge rotation, I have gifted these sorts of knives to plenty of people where they go on to serve as "single knife EDC". I know at least two guys who have been carrying the same Civivi for well over a year now. One is an office guy and the other is retired with horses. The latter's knife shows more wear but he keeps it sharp and has no complaints. I always crack a smile when I visit and see that clip on his pocket.

I gave a Sencut fixed blade in 9Cr18Mov to a hunter and he has processed several deer with it now.

"I've seen elsewhere that these knives "have no soul".Im kinda guilty of this ; It kind of means the way these Chinese companies flood the market and pump out design after design, many getting discontinued or forgotten, as opposed to something timeless like a spyderco para military , endura, or Sebenza, for example.A design thats been around ,well accepted, and improved apon, as opposed to generic designs that come and go when the wind blows.

I spend a lot of time in the outdoors and am a mechanic/shop owner so I may be tougher on knives than most. I carry a GB2 in M4 at work. Anything less and I have to sharpen it a couple of times a week and will probably break the tip off. I carry another GB2, Hogue Ritter, Bugout or Sebenza when not at work.

Kizer has been leaning into that space. They hit the ground running with their version of the Axis lock. (I know the Drop Bear is popular.) They've also got a few knives in 3V or 4V. That's all out of my wheelhouse but I'll be curious to hear from people who have tried them.

I just got this Stormridge knife today. I've had the Tamashii for a while. I am amazed at the quality you get for the money. I have many many knives and these are right up there with the best of them. I have ordered many custom kydex sheaths at 40 to 50 dollers a pop and none are made better than these. I have no financial interest in Civivi. Just had to give them a shout out even if they are made in China.View attachment 2460660

You should try the Ruike Jager F118. Its a very nice knife for around $75. I just ordered one of these Civi Stormridge just to compare to it. I am always on the search to find the cheapest quality knife I can. The Ruike comes with 14C28N which I prefer over NitroV but I'll have to see how it feels in hand. The sheath that comes with the Ruike isnt that great but it works. Crazy how a $75 knife can feel like a $350 knife.

I've got one but I believe I like the Civi a little better.

The Ruike Jager came up in a recent fixed blade thread. It remains popular for good reasons. I like mine very much but the stock sheath has worn out and it's time to replace it. It's not terrible or anything but the problem is that they went with a non-kydex polymer and adjustable tension with that top screw. I've just slowly worn down the retention surface on the sheath. Really, it just needs a good Kydex sheath made for it and like selling stuff here, I've been lazy. 😅

On the other side of the coin, the Jager uses my favorite belt attachment. It can be rotated and locks into place with a metal tab. So you can change orientation on your belt in just a couple of seconds across maybe eight different angles. Unlike the wear issue I had with the retention point on the sheath, I have this same attachment on a few different fixed blades and it has held up very well. (That includes negligence on my part and several hard snags against the locking mechanism.) When I get a new sheath made for my Jager, I'll be making sure that the hole spacing accomodates the same belt attachment.

That Civivi looks cool but I'm always thumbing the spine so I like a flat handle-spine transition.

I have the drop bear. And like it. I just don't use it much because I want to keep it nice.

@w how do you like the stormridge so far. I found a good deal on a tamashii so I have one inbound but really thinking about the stormridge.
