I got this model free with black Friday purchase at blade HQ. While I'm happy with the Hogue Deka Carbon Fiber that qualified me for free goodies, the Civivi Scintilla really impressed me.

Now the problem, when I ordered the Hogue I thought the free Civivi would be a good white elephant gift for the upcoming holidays.......but now I want to keep it for myself!!!

Here are pics

Even worse is they don't sell this model, it's just for bladehq as a promo!

Put mine up for sale as soon as I received that joke of a knife
Didn't want it but couldnt delete it off my cart as it was a promotion or something

Flipper tap, liner lock d2, stone washed, way too many of those already floating around

How many thumb stud, "premium steel", titanium framelock's are out there? Tons... Doesn't mean I need to hurry up and dump my Inkosi and xm-18 for fear of them being too common...

I didn't get one so no horse in the race, but seems like a fine little knife to me. Albeit probably too small for my hands, I like the overall shape/profile of the knife. Sort of gives me Spyderco Manix vibes..

Inkosi, xm-18--- id never spend over 400 on a folder.

its not in fear, I was ordering a civivi cogent button lock in 14C28N as my only folder
(Amazing BTW)
I didn't need a groupie
But Bhq didn't let me delete a free add on, so
On sale it went

Damn them for including a decent knife on your order right before the holidays. If I didn't like a free knife and my wife didn't like a free knife I have a number of coworkers that will use knives out of the dollar bin until there is nothing left of them. I'm sure we all know people like that. Seems a silly thing to complain about but hey to each there own. Hope you got enough out of it to cover the cost of shipping but not enough to offset the cost of your order because that would be a check in favor of the free knife.

Does that make it a joke or just something common? Either way, it should be judged for what it is. For instance, how good a fish is it in that sea?

Better yet, how good is it for a free knife?

45.00 shipped
If it something civivi made on the regular

Well, I think it is a fine knife for free. I like my $30 Mini Praxis more, but I would hang onto this one as a spare or as a family member give away. if others want to sell it that is their prerogative, but it seems unfair to bad mouth a free knife with a decent action and edge.

I'm not generally a fan of Chinese D2 versus 14C28N, 9Cr18Mov, N60, etc... However, I'd still take it over the 8Cr13Mov Spyderco is using at the $50 level. Unless you need more corrosion resistance, Chinese D2 really shines at the $30 level. I haven't handled the Mini Praxis but I'm glad to see Civivi putting one out there alongside the mega bargains from Petrified Fish.

If the Scintilla was in fact a freebie, the haters should really take a moment to reevaluate their lives.

I posted a comparison photo of my new Scintilla next to my new Baklash and purple Elementum HERE, and it is a small'ish knife but with decent D2 steel and action; and I also prefer the Civivi 9Cr18MoV to the Spyderco 8Cr13MoV which I wont buy.

The Mini Praxis was a Black Friday $30 knife that I posted about HERE and it is very nice for under $75, and about the size of my Benchmade Mini Griptilian. It feels good in the hand and I can get 4-fingers around it with my size large hands, although the scales are not as contoured nor comfortable as the Benchmade mini grip. But my God can Civivi make some very nice $30 knives that shouldn't be possible. But others like the QSP Penguin at $35 are equally impressive at that price point.

If it were the typical jarbenza that is usually thrown in as a free gift from sporting goods stores etc, that'd be one thing. Something I'd never use, and couldn't sell, and wouldn't want to give away either.

This little Civivi? No complaints. I'd gift it to a relative.

My dad left behind multiple crap folders I don't know what to do with. Mostly kept them in his desk drawer at work, most are old and beat up. I was not on the best of terms with him until about 12 years ago. I started giving him knives at that point.

If I didn't already mention it, WE does an exceptional heat treatment on their 9Cr18Mov. Forget 8Cr13Mov. The 9Cr18Mov in Civivi and Sencut knives can hold a better edge than Spyderco's VG-10.

Yeah, there are other impressive knives in the sub-$50 category. I mention Petrified Fish because they kill it at the $30 level. Their scales can have crisp edges and they generally don't use flush screws with their loop-overs but they are still significant wins under $40. You might also be interested in the Sencut knives from WE. While Civivi still has exceptions like these under $50, Sencut has taken over most of their action on the low end.

I wish I could get excited by QSP but I've given them lots of chances and they've given me too many lemons. :(
