My father picked this up for me when he was on a trip. A Condor Knife and Tool Pigsticker with Camo Coated blade and full hand gaurd. Blade length is 18 inches. He was at a knife store and I was on the phone going over what he was getting then he said he would pick me up something for a reasonable price. I started rambeling off stuff and came up with Condor Tools. Apparently they a whole mess of different stlyes but not having one yet I went with the pigsticker as I liked the looks of the size of it on the website.

When I first opened the box I was very impressed with the quality of the sheath with this thing. Nice leather with a belt swivel for the sheath which drops the machete/knife down a little which makes it more comfortable to carry.

After taking it out of the sheath I noticed how rediculously light it was. I dont have many machete's and have somewhat strayed from them as I prefer large choppers that are much thicker and have had bad experiences with CS machetes with terrible HT's. The pigsticker with the Gaurd looks kind of like a Pirate saber and if I were much younger I migth have started doing mock ship battles with it:D

It came shaving sharp with a nice narrow edge and the balance felt really good on it. I was a bit disheartened at the fact the edge doesnt go all the way down to the handle at first......but that changed.

Pic took after some use.

I quickly went to work slashing and hacking at brier bushes and ground brush. It FLEW through it, I started using small quick cuts as it used less energy and found this the most effective way to use for the briers. It was just amazing to me how handy this thing was, I quickly became very fond of this machete and found myself wacking away clearing brush around my hunting spot and thinking it fun. I never experienced any hand fatigue or hot spots but did find my hand slipping down a bit and bracing against the gaurd for longer/harder cuts.

It chopped small tree limbs very easily and multiple cuts were needed for some of the larger ones.

A chopper? NOPE this thing is too thin to really chop with and I wouldnt use a baton on it. I'd rather use an axe or large knife to split with. But hey thats not what this thing is made for.

(shot was taken to show it against the wood, not showing it chopping...I chopeed much further forward)

I then tried to make fuzz sticks and do some small work with (no pics of this) and it did ok. This is where that area without the edge comes into play. It allows you to choke up on the blade and do smaller work with your hand on the blade. Not the most comfortable but it certainly can be done. The nice thin edge that is convexed worked pretty well for this.

In conclusion: I did alot of work with this thing over the weekend. I really like the overall feel of it and found it fun to use and carry. Very light, the edge held up great to the work I did to it and just touched it up on a strop to maintain the edge. I must admin I was leary of the 420 steel but it held up fine for what it was intended for. For the price this thing is hard to beat. I see myself getting a BUNCH of stuff from Condor after having used the Pigsticker.

Thanks for the review. I'm really intrigued by the new, as-of-yet-unreleased offerings from Condor and I have never owned or used anything from them in the past.

I find it especially interesting that it comes with a good edge, as every machete that I've owned up to this point (ontarios, CSs, and trams) needed much work with that respect out of the box.

The place my father got it charged 60 I believe. But they can be had cheaper online, I know they are around 40 or so from knifecenter but those dont have the gaurd or that camo coating.

I too was suprised, you can see the edge has a fairly steep grind and is very usable right out of the box. I dont think I'd make it any thinner than it is right now.
