Our seventh Annual CKCA Mini-Knife Show will take place on Thursday Night June 4, 2015 as part of our Banquet/Annual Meeting. That's the night before the start of Blade Show. You won't want to miss this.

Announcing Knifemakers for this year's CKCA Mini-Show:

Karl Andersen JS - Hunter

Bing Bingenheimer JS - Folder

JR Cook MS - Bowie/Fighter

Haley DesRosiers JS - Deluxe Hunter

Dave Lisch JS - Bowie/Fighter

Sam Lurquin JS - Tactical Fighter

Johnny Stout - Fancy Folder

Thank you to all above knifemakers for their participation.

A group of fine makers. I own knives from several of them.

But pretty heavily weighted to ABS makers. No Guild members. I think that is a shame. Glad to see Johnny Stout . . . it would be nice if he brings a tactical folder as that has been very underrepresented at these Mini-Shows at least the past few years.

Ken, our goal is to offer, from our pool of member knifemakers, the broadest selection of knives to best suit our member's tastes, within a price range that's in reach of as many members as possible.
This is not an easy task. However, I feel we have been fairly successful, considering all or most all knives go home with very pleased CKCA members.

Perhaps you could recruit new maker members whose knives more represent the styles you would like to see offered at our show. Or perhaps you can volunteer to help manage the Knifemaker/knives selection process for a future Mini-Show. I bet either solution would be more productive than complaining.

Kevin, I shall donate a copy of my new book,
"The World of Art Knives" Vol. III
to be offered as a prize in a raffle at the event.

I'll ask Dave Harvey to mail you a copy as I shall not be traveling
this year to the USA...

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

This event has become one of our favorite things about BLADE. The excitement is already building for the show doors to open the next morning and the venue is perfect. Our Ladysmith group has even taken advantage of it to gather for an annual aperitif at Maggiano's bar an hour before the banquet. Thanks to Kevin, Ryan and Mary and anyone else working behind the scenes to create such a universally enjoyed evening for makers and collectors.

I'm honored to be a part of the mini-show for the first time this year and have plans to create something special specifically for this group. See you all in June!

Thank you David, that's a fine gesture. I'm sure our members will appreciate it.
Sorry you will not be among us this year.

The CKCA appreciates your and Adam's support.
I agree Haley, our event is one of the most gratifying gatherings of "Knife People" in existence IMO.

You should better differentiate between a critique and a complaint.

I admit I am confused as to how a show where almost every maker is a forged ABS Smith, where not a single Guild maker is represented, where the hottest segment of the custom knife marker, the tactical folder market, is repeatedly ignored . . . offers "the broadest selection of knives to best suit [your] member's tastes?" Did you send out an e-mail and poll the members on their tastes and the kinds of knives and makers they would like to see at the Mini-Show? If so, I apologize if I missed that poll and did not respond.

Furthermore, I am not sure why I should volunteer to do anything for your organization (I mean anything more than I have already done, such as a couple of years ago when I spent basically the entire Blade Show manning your booth and recruiting new members for your organization). And the CKCA is YOUR organization - probably more truthfully named the Kevin Jones Knife Corporation, as the "members" have absolutely no vote or say in who runs your organization, or how your organization is run, or what it does. And since it is your organization, that is of course perfectly fine - just best everyone understands the score. And since it is your organization, is not my responsibility to recruit a more diverse group of makers for your organization. Your organization; your decisions. BTW, it is easy to post "attaboys" . . . and then sit on your wallet. But I am thinking that I might have had more skin in the game in terms of supporting the mini-show by actually buying knives from the mini-show than most or all of the other posters on this thread. Maybe (?) all combined.

You posted a list of the makers here in a public forum (not your personal CKCA Forum) in an open thread, which makes it fair game for comment. I complimented the makers, and politely noted the lack of representation of the Guild, of tactical folders . . . well of most anything but ABS forged makers, and commented that I believe that is a shame. It was not a complaint, and in fact was positive/constructive criticism from someone who has supported the mini-show with his own dollars, if you were able to recognize it. But if all you are willing to accept is kumbayas from folks who never put any skin in the game anyway, then maybe best keep it at CKCA where you call all the shots and you erase posts when you see fit, because it does not look like you control this forum.

Ken, I will not address your above attack as folks in the community know me well enough that I don't need to. You are a real class act.

I am, once again, honored to participate in such a stellar event.
Always some pretty cool elbows to rub against.
I know how events such as these are always above and beyond what many people do in their "normal" lives.
To dedicate any time at all is often asking a very great deal. If anyone then feels the outcome should be different, all that is needed is for them to pitch in, help, suggest and contribute.
I am not sure how many of these events - CKCA - have taken place now- 7? Not sure.
But there is not one minute of any of them I have not immensely enjoyed.
Always my favorite part of the Blade Show weekend.
And my hat is off to Kevin for pulling it off successfully every time. He hasn't done it alone, but he's always at the head of the pack.
See ya'll there.

The CKCA event is one of the most gratifying gatherings of "Knife People" in existence IMO.

After participating in quite a few fully packed such CKCA events,
I absolutely agree with you Kevin, so it is my opinion too and I
am sure it is also that of many others as well!

This will be my first time at the CKCA event. I am truly honored to be attending. Looking forward to meeting new like minded friends. Of course rekindling old.
