That is a pretty sweet hunter.
I love the banquet and have attended every one since its inception. I consider the CKCA event my most fulfilling portion of the Blade Show. Which is a bit of a misnomer, as it isn't connected to the Blade Show. Yet it's rather difficult to separate the two.
That said, the evening spent with other makers and collectors in a condensed evening is spectacular.
It always ends too soon.
And the knives just look better here than on a table in the Galleria.
Everyone who can needs to put this event on their radar.

Josh - awesome knife.

Josh, this is a beautiful framed hunter. I have a soft spot for dark wood and perfect checkering too. Thanks for going the extra mile.

Charles created a beautiful Loveless style sub-hilt fighter for our show.

Handle - Sub-hilt of premium mammoth ivory and 416SS guards
Blade - CPM-154
Custom leather Loveless style sheath by Charles
BL=8-1/4"
OAL=13-1/2"

A couple real beauties so far.

That hunter by Josh is right up my alley. Excellent details.

Charles' fighter is so clean you could almost use it for surgery. I'm diggin' the color of that ivory too.

John's take on a Persian Kard (circa 18th Century)

Handle- African Blackwood handle, hand carved w/ high relief leaves and vine motif and stippled background; 'twisted steel' fileworked spine,
bronze collar w/ stippled band, thorn and vine fileworked accents, fluted damascus spacer, damascus finial
Blade - Hand forged from W2 steel, clay quenched.
Custom leather sheath - by Claude Scott.
BL= 9-1/2"
OAL= 14-1/4"

What an excellent stag and damasucs Bowie Kyle has created for our show.
Handle - Premium Sambar Stag with twist damascus guard and random pattern pommel.
Blade - 4-bars of twisted damascus and a layer of random pattern.
Sheath - Custom leather sheath with rattlesnake skin inlay and display stand by Kyle.
BL = 7-1/2"
OAL= 13"

Those are all really cool pieces in their own right, but so far I always find myself really drawn to Joshes knives and this one is no exception. Im also biased to that Tim Hancock "border cut and goove" spacer and tear drop guard combo. Gets me every time!

I love Lin's highly styled Big Bowies and this is a great example:
Handle - Premium Amber Samber Stag with Damascus and Stainless file-worked fittings and guard
Blade - 1084 & 15n20 Laddered "W" blade
BL= 12"
OAL= 17-1/2"

The CKCA Banquet was terrific - I especially enjoyed meeting the many overseas makers- from ALL over- who came. Some major talent :thumbup:

Kevin, Ryan and Mary Hayes have just done a great job, year after year - Kevin has now officially turned over the reins to Ryan going forward !

I think we as collectors need to do better with attendance at this banquet - the makers are MORE than holding up their end.

With that said, the knives were fantastic :D

I was lucky enough to be drawn for Josh Fisher's hunter - incredible work at an excellent price! You will be hearing a lot from him in the future. I'd never met him before, but he is a super humble and talented guy :thumbup:

As good as the photos were, John Doyle's knife was better in person - you cannot fully appreciate this knife until you have it in hand, especially the filework on the spine. Got to hang out with John a bunch - in between him getting abused by Bing:D

I think Buddy got drawn for his Kard - lucky guy
John has a great attitude and loads of talent - he is in it for the long haul !!!

I am not in any way a Loveless expert, but Charles' Big Bear was just perfect to my eyes. He was holding up the "non-forged" knife category with distinction.

Kyle's Bowie, Rattlesnake sheath and display were beautifully done - knife was light and fast. Got to talk with Kyle and his family a bit at the show - another great young guy on the way up!

Lin's Bowie was a BEAST - but a sophisticated one too. Lin can make anything, from his very cool Brut de Forge Xray Bowie to a "fancy" Bowie like this one - and such a gracious and humble guy

Anyway, all in all a great night, and best wishes to Ryan going forward in his new role - Collectors, it's time to help Ryan out with suggestions going forward and to help increase our base
