CKRT - bang for the buck!

I own 2 CRKT fixed blades, the Ed Halligan Stiff KISS, and the SOTFB (Special Operations Tactical Fixed Blade) and i love both of them. Excellent Edges and i believe both are AUS-8. Excellent Heat Treat on both also.

Bushman, when you get a chance.. If you could put a few of these through some work and post results I'd appreciate it. I had a CRKT in my pocket for about 2 months of my first deployment before I junked it. It couldn't keep an edge, not even the shape of one, it would roll and chip so bad I couldn't put an edge back on it.

Switched to a Sebenza after that and had it in my pocket every day for 3 years(2 deployments)

Some of CRKTs designs are completely kick ass, but as others said the steel they used previously turned me away from the company as a whole. I'd love to find out I can start recommending them to other Marines.

I carried a M16-14 for 8 years before i gave it away and it endured all the hard use i put it through like a champion! i dropped it on concrete, threw it a trees, etc and it was as sturdy as the day i got it. The steel was not the best by far but it was easy to sharpen and easy to make scary sharp!

CRKT has a chance to redeem themselves still , just loose some of those funky designs !

Tostig

I could not disagree more. Those funky designs are CRKT's biggest asset. Say what you will about quality and steel choice, at least they are selling some unique designs.

Do we really need another company pumping out drop-point linerlocks with black G10 handles?

I have around 30 different CRKT knives running throughout the last 10 years or so. I am not allowed to buy any as then my wife has a better idea of what she has already purchased. I agree with above posters that traditionally CRKT has been a great entry level knife company- they make a knife for basically everybody at a very good price range. I still look forward to each new CRKT I get (Fathers Day isn't too far away), and while they don't generally arrive as a better knife than my customs, Sebenza etc, I do enjoy carrying them around and they do get used just like my other knives.

I really like some of CRKTs new designs (including the first 3 knives in the OP), but what sends me looking at Kershaw & spyderco, aside from steel choices, is that CRKT (and please correct me if I'm wrong) has crap for lefties who want to use a pocket clip. That, and the fact that some of their designs are just bizarre!

Yesterday, my wife bought a CRKT Point Guard for me at a yard sale for $1. The tip of the point was busted off, and the blade had a few scratches. I reprofiled the tip of the blade, polished the scratches off the blade, sharpened the blade, and ordered a new "stand-off" and 3
frame screws from CRKT, as the standoff was a regular (rusted) bolt (NOT "stock"), and the frame-screws were missing. Once I put these new parts in (as well as a new pivot and washers, also ordered from CRKT), I'll have one heck of a nice little $1 folder!...

The only CRKT I still have is the Stubby Razel. Amazing quality and damned close to the original in every way that matters.
