i have had mine several years great machine,do a search all forumns you can read plenty, i know several people with them never heard of a complant, we have many engineers on these forumns all saying build your own- if i had it to do all over again i would buys rons press again. bb

I have a Ron Claiborne press. Great press! If I had it to do over... I'd get another press from Ron. He builds a great press and stands behind it... although I have never needed any support or fixes. It worked right the first time and keeps on working. This is not to belittle anyone else's press. I am just telling you about my press. I don't think you can go wrong getting a press from Ron... and if you work it right, you might get down to ron's shop in Knoxville for a couple of days to "learn to use it" and just happen to make some beautiful Damascus while learning a ton in the process. :-) Ron has 'hooked' a whole lot of people on Damascus...

Ron's presses are top-shelf. I learned on a Carlisle, and they are good too, but I think Ron's are a bit nicer.

I know...you can hide it at my house!:D

I have one of Mr. Claiborne's 25 ton presses. Love it! Ron is one heck of a nice guy to deal with also.

Well, like I said before. Ed Caffrey uses one of these press4s in hos video, so he could probably give you an opinion based on some "quality time" with one of these machines.

That said, my personal preference would be for an "H-Frame" style press. Of course, nobody makes the press *I* want, so I'm going to have to built it myself :)

I checked the price on the Imagination X-press recently. IIRC, it was a little more expensive that the Clairborne press. I don't have the email here in front of me, but the X-press was somewhere about $3,900.

Something else to think about, dies... You are going to need to make or buy some. IIRC, with a Claiborne press, Ron let's you select 4 sets of dies (or was it 5?) that he builds for you... no charge. Just another expense that you will have to account for one way or the other.
