Bumps or BTT style posts are only allowed once every 72 hours, per thread.
If you bump your thread more than that, it will be locked. New posts listing price changes, new photographs or information, or additional items for sale, answering buyer questions, or listing the item as sold are allowed and do not apply to the "1 Bump every 72 hours" rule.

I was re-reading the rules, and for some reason this time around, I felt that there was a diferent way this could be defined... So I just want to be sure, rather than find out the hard way.

A.) Is the bump rule once every 72 hours of inactivity, starting from the last post on the thread?

B.) ...Or regardless of newer posts concerning pix, photo's, Buyers, marking sold, new info, price changes, etc., you are also allowed to BTT your thread every 72hrs. from your last 'bump'?

TIA for the clarification. :)

Let's say you post a knife for sale on 4/11/07 and it receives no replies. You are allowed to bump it on 4/14/07.

You can bump the thread later that day or the following day provided you are dropping the price.

Replies to your thread and your responses do not count against the bump rule. So if 3 people respond on 4/11, 4/12/ or 4/13 you are still allowed to bump it on the 4/14.

Ok, so 72 hours from your last bump... Got it. Thank you, Ken C.! I should've asked waaay earlier. :D For some reason I interpreted it the first time as 72hrs. from the last post on the thread regardless of who's post or why. :o LOL :)

i had always considered questions posted by others as bumps as well.

thx for the clarification.

I agree. I believe most members thought that as well. Frankly,,to allow bumps plus comments doesn't make sense.

Read the Exchange Rules. Spark laid out what is and is not allowed.

I think what Spark meant by that could be rephrased "The 72-hour bump rule does not apply to new posts listing price changes, new photographs or information, or additional items for sale, answering buyer questions, or listing the item as sold." Seems clear enough to me....

Posting to list price changes, new photographs or information, or additional items for sale, answering buyer questions, or listing the item as sold is allowed even if it's been less than 72 hours since the last post. Posting just to bump the thread to the top is not allowed unless it's been 72 hours since the last post.

....."Boss Kean say that's his ditch. I tol' him that their dirt is yore dirt. What's yore dirt doin' in his ditch?"

"I don't know, Boss."

"You git yore dirt outa his ditch, boy!"
..................................................
"Luke, what you think you doin'?"

"Diggin' my dirt outa Boss Kean's ditch, Boss."

"Be damned iff'n you gonna put your dirt in mah yard. You hear me?"

"Yes, Boss."

"Then git it out there. Roll it, heah?"....
:D

Ok, I'm all confused again... Two SuperMods with two different interpretations...
No offense to Cougar Allen in any way of course, but I like Ken C.'s interpretation better, LOL ;) ...So which is the one we should be following??

A.) One bump allowed every 72 hours from the last BUMP on that thread???
OR
B.) One bump allowed every 72 hours from the last POST on that thread???

Ummm, Spark, I think we need a ruling from the H.P.I.C. here, please...! :)

Thank you for your time.

Far from being HPIC, but I do not read option B into either Mod posts. Option A is the only one that is consistent with what both said. BTT for Spark

I think it does need to be clarified. I thought I understood it but now I'm not so sure....

I'm going to have to tighten this down I guess. I'll think about how it needs to be revised and comment in a bit

Since any kind of post results in a bump to the top, I would think the above quoted line makes the most sense. In fact that is how I interpreted it from the time it was first implemented.

FWIW, I've always enforced the rule just as Ken explained.

The 72 hour bump rule applies to the OP, unless, as Ken stated, there are new items added, a price drop, or answering buyers questions.

I've tried to be as lenient as possible.

One thing that is a definate no no is chit chatting, or making comments in the thread, unless it pertains to your offer to purchase, or to ask questions regarding your potential purchase.

I guess we await Sparks ruling.

Sorry, Cougar Allen... LOL, I didn't mean to spread my confusion!! :D Contagious, ain't it? ;)

Thanxx, Spark! I await the verdict.

I looked back over this again, and it is pretty straightfoward, but I guess I should have clarified it a bit to please some of the rules lawyers.

You are allowed one BTT style post every 72 hours. The 72 hours starts from the time of your last post in that thread. Price drops, answering questions, etc are exempt from the 72 hours rule and do not count as a BTT style post.

Is that clear enough, or do I need to make it even clearer?

It's hardly ever that anything is really clear enough on the net....

The 72 hours starts from the time of your last post in that thread.

Hmm ... does that make sense? If someone else posts and it's not a question that the seller will have to answer then it must be "chat" (I think, though maybe I'm missing some possibility). Then he'll get a warning (at least) but should the seller get an extra bump out of that? What if that rule were:

The 72 hours starts from the time of the last post in that thread.

Would that make more sense, or less? I don't know, maybe I'm missing something....
