Clasp Knives

Jackknife, thanks for your input regarding the term "clasp knife." The photos posted here illustrate the concept very well, and agree with you that the term is an old one, even antiquated you could truthfully say. As for its status as a weapon I guess it comes down to someone using whatever knife they own to get the job at hand done. I suspect that most older folding knives were larger than most of today's pocket knives. Of course, many of us have "pocket knives" that are quite a bit larger than pen knives are or were, too! :D And nobody much sharpens a goose feather to use it for a pen these days, either.

Wow that Case is outstanding, I think I just like that a little more than the Cripple Creek, both very nice knives Though

Cargill was a Case repair man for quite a while and the Case influence seems to show in both knives.

Some beautiful examples you guys. I, like others, have considered one for a while, and still haven't gotten around to it. I seem to be downsizing more and more these days...

In England
A jack knife is a large knife
A clasp knife is a jack knife with a clasp to keep it open

But we called the old army opening knives 'clasp' knives.
go figure!

I also used to have a pen knife, which was 1" long for sharpening quills!

I started a post about a new Case Clasp pattern with ATS-34 blade steel. I also found a Kabar 100 year commemorative clasp knife. Both are nice lookers and I am very tempted to go with both! I really like the blade pattern.
