Classic American Design

I can think of a couple, the Buck 110 and the Spyderco Endura. The 110 made folding knives popular, and you hardly ever saw knives with pocket clips with holes in them before Spyderco came around.

I'd also throw in the CRK Sebenza, but to a lesser extent. The Sebenza is an icon sure, but mostly for knifenuts IMO. As good as it is, I don't think it has had the impact of the other two knives.

Not yet, but will be soon, is the Leatherman Multi-tool. Much more manly than the Swiss Army knives, that have been an Icon unto themselves (although not American). I'd say the Classic Randall knives that have been around for so long, and copied by so many. Any Bowie-style knife will be instantly recognized as American.

+1 on the Buck 110.

The BM 970 or Emerson 7.

Bo Randall - became "combat classic"

Bob Loveless - drop point hunter is still the best design ever made

Jimmy Lile - Can we say Rambo?

Bob Dozier - no frills utility hunter and early proponent of D2

Sal Glesser - clipit and Spyderhole

Phil Hartsfield - Chisel grind

There are tons more. google the web

Yes, we can google it.

But, I'd like to establish the definitive list of American knives.

Every single question posted here could be answered with this. Maybe it should just be made a sticky?

I'd like to get a list - then make it a sticky.

We hear so much these days about Swedish or Japanese or... other knife design. Tremendous stuff. God knows. I love 'em.

But, Americans have so much to say on this, and it seems to fade into the background so often. Aren't we the real pioneers? The resourceful ones?

It should for giving an answer to a very generic question that encompasses 200+ years of design and manufacturing. The answer to those questions is the treatise for a book, or at the minimum a wiki, not a forum post.

Buck 110's and Bowie Style fixed blades... Also some Bayonets set off Tactical Styles in my opinion...

Please, no. We can name a dozen or so knives that define the best of Americana.
