This is another knife I bought at a flea market about 15 years ago. It was in mint condition with original sheath. The guy told me it was rejected becuse of the crack in the handle. Since that time, this knife has filleted tuna, mahi, flounder, striped bass, sea trout, and countless numbers of white perch and has reduced about 30 flats of butter fish into chunks. It was my goto knife.
About 6 months ago I lost the sheath. I was heartbroken.I had seen the same model "167 SteelHead " at the local sporting goods store and decided to replace it. Much to my dismay it was out of stock and on back order.
Thats when I found out about Schrade's going out of bussiness. I was able to find a replacement for about the same price the store had listed ,$29.99, by shopping online.
This old reject will probably last me the rest of my life but I've got a couple of new mints just in case.

Good story...
Makes me want to have Yellowfin for dinner tonight... :)

Heck the people handling the present version of this knife would still be selling it as A OK. Probably with a disclaimer like.....Pearl, Stag, and Bone ( even through YOUR knife is Delrin Staglon  ) are natural materials and cracks anywhere remotely near a pin, are natural occurrences.....Whatever.

I don't turn up my nose at those rejects. As long as a seller identifies them for what they are (assuming he knows). I have seen sellers claiming the rarity of a Schrade because of the "special XX tang mark".

I have a similar knife that I bought knowing it was a reject (though the seller did not identify it as such). Quite a while back, I acquired a 162UH Ducks Unlimited knife with mismatched bone handle scales. The shield side, after being buffed to the proper contour had little of the jigging left, so it is more plain than the normal looking pile side. It was then rejected before the DU coined shield could be installed in the inleted hole. BUT..... I bought it for the beautiful gold filled blade etch. So it will not be a user for that reason.

Some time later another forum member here helped me score a mint one that will be my user ( production model, no blade etch and Staglon scales, not bone). I still say that a good user knife proves the pattern design and material choices as a wall hanger never will.

Nope, no shame in owning a good user knife, even if it was a reject, particularly if it was made by Schrade.

PS- I still see original sheaths for those occasionally if you want one. Perhaps a forum member even has an extra used one in his sheath stash.
