Classic vs 21

I think a few are confusing the Regular model Sebenza and the Classic/21 Sebenza.

These posts touch on the differences nicely with pictures.

Here is another thread on the differences (actually the best one IMO).

I know the difference between the Regular and the 21 as I have both.

I wanted to know if people prefer the chamfering on the 21 over the classic, but thought the classic's might be smoother

we get distracted so easily. sorry.

I think that the only difference in smoothness that I notice is from the newer perforated washers. The chamfering on the leading edge of the handle is nicer on the 21, but conversely I prefer the thumb cut-out on the Classic. Small issues to be sure, and really not decision makers in my book.

Totally personal preference, but I slightly prefer the uniform bevel on the Classic scales to the 21, but I slightly prefer the clean no-lettering look of the 21 to the Classic with its billboard. Overall, these are something like 50.5 vs. 49.5 and vice versa. :) I'm indifferent on the difference in the bevel on the thumb cutouts. ;)

Based on my own experience, I don't think either is smoother than the other, with or without the new washers. That's based on three 21s and two Classics, several of which were converted to the new perf'd washers after I had used them for a while. YMMV!

At the end of the day, if I wanted a specific inlay or decoration, I'd buy it in whichever model I could find and wouldn't think even 1.5x, much less twice, about it. :D

The only part of the Classic that I prefer over the 21 is how the hollow ground portion of the blade near the tang does not go under the handles on the Classic. It may sound confusing but if you look at the two knives you will see what I mean. Other than that I prefer the 21.

Same here. I hate that the handle covers the grind lines when open.
Other than that I like everything about the 21.

Thanks for the links. I love seeing the evolution of the Sebenza over the years.

I never noticed this until you brought it up. What's strange is all the small 21's I've seen have this happen. However, I have seen large 21's that the grind does and doesn't go under the handles. I wonder if CRK changed the grind sometime on the 21's.

I did not want to offend anyone in my previous post, apologies if it did.
