I bought this knife last week. Seller's name is Clayton Lawrence. Knife was also listed on USN, but we were communicating by PM here.
"Simultaneous" shipping on 7-29.
I send a postal MO by priority mail, delivery confirmation # is 03030130000113893869.

Clayton's PMs stop working, as his Gold membership runs out, so I email confirming sending the money order.

On 7-30, the game begins. I get this email: "if ya shoot me your address i'll just send out the knife tomorrow. Ü. i usually send by usps."

My address and phone number are in that email, as it is a continuation of the earlier one. He's had it from the start, three times from the first PM, and the following response, as well as in email.

I resend the email pointing out that my address is included, and then send another email the next day giving my address for the fifth time.

No response.

On 8-2 I see the duplicate of the FS post linked above on USN, and see that he is being emailed about the knife by others, and post on the thread that the knife is sold. I also do a search, and discover that he's been posting there, (but not here were I originally responded) though answering email is apparently too much trouble.

Clayton then posts that the knife is en route.

That means it is on the way, at least to me. 8-2.

I received the knife today, and it is as described except that it has apparently benn dropped on the tip.

Package is postmarked 8-3.

It's deadbeat liars like this that make dealing online a PITA, and take all the joy out of this hobby.

I'm not much for posting bad feedback (think this is the first time), but I'm sick of this crap, and am compiling a bad list, something I never thought I'd do before this year, which has been a continuous flow of one loser after another, with only a couple of good guys thrown in, and from now on, everyone who lies to me, and plays games with my money and time will get a dedicated post in their "honor" :barf:

Edited because this isn't what it seemed to be initially.
The blade wasn't damaged to be unacceptable.
Matter of fact it was almost imperceptible.
The timeframe was short for the entire deal.
I was way off base with the initial post.

Next time I'll ask for more information. Hopefully before I insert foot in mouth

My apologies to Clayton for jumping the gun.

Humbled and in error
Tom

i have absolutely no idea what you mean by dropping the knife on the tip. as to the knife being late. that is correct thats why i overnighted it. when i asked for your address i didnt think that i had to send you an email back saying that i recieved it. when you responed to the post on the usn i did respond to it there.
other people responded to the post and i did email them all back via pm and also email. thats just no of your business, further more please just mail me back the knife. i still havent cashed your money order so i will send it back to you. there wasn't any damage to the tip that i remember. and if you look at the pics in the post you can see for yourself. if i get the knife back and its not in the shape i sent it in i will take it anyway.
bottom line if your not happy with the trade then lets reverse it. i have so much **** going on im my life right now i really dont need this on top of it.

Thanks, Tom. I have not been ripped off by anyone, thankfully, just had my patience pushed beyond its limit by the practices of people I trade with.
Things have changed a lot around here in the last couple of years, it seems.

Clayton,
The tip was a very minor detail, so I can understand if you didn't notice it. Probably need not mentioned it. I just happen to have opened the package under direct overhead lighting, and saw light reflecting. Already fixed it, and am happy with the knife. It got "tested" at work tonight, and is definitely not in the condition that it was sent in.
Regardless, it is a done deal.
It is the way the trade was conducted that I am not happy with.
I asked you from the start to let me know when you shipped the knife.
I also knew the moment I got a email that included my address, asking for my address that there were going to be problems.
I've had the "confusion over whatever" game played on me about a dozen times this year. Every time, it's the day after I send payment or sale item, and every time I have trouble with the other person holding up their end.
All the stuff going on in your life wasn't enough to keep you from posting on the other forum, or putting the knife up for sale, was it?
This is old news to me.

Owen, obviously you're entitled to feel however you want to feel, but I can tell you Clayton isnt a BS artist, he really does have alot of crap going on in his life right now, he's not one to make up excuses. Yes, of course he's my friend and yes, there are people who make up stories to cover their actions, but that's not him. I know him to be an honest, honorable person. Dont lump him in with them.
He's offered you a full refund, what more could be done? Heck, if you take him up on his refund offer, I'll refund whatever your shipping costs were.

Hey Owen, if that's the worst thing that ever happens to you in the course of trading over the Internet you should count yourself among the lucky ones.

Seems like this has worked out well.
The blade is satisfactory to Owen.
Clayton had big stuff on his plate.

All's well by my eyes.

I don't consider being constantly lied to by the people I trade with "lucky", and don't have any sympathy for them.
I'm busy. I work 80+ hours some weeks. I've had deaths in the family, been injured on the job, and had my truck break down while conducting trades online, but managed to do what I said I would. I've skipped sleep while working multiple back to back double shifts, and gone to the PO on the way to a funeral to keep up my end of deals.
That's not doing anything special. That's just right. It's called integrity.
When I buy a knife, or flashlight, or anything else, that's what I'm buying. I'm not buying lies, excuses, hassle, or into someone else's life.
You don't want my problems, and I certainly don't want yours.
Your word is either good or it isn't. It's not a matter of convenience, or conditions.

Dude, you need to get a life.

You've obviously never had to work at a place that has any kind of activity going on Monday. So your knife went out a day late...get over it. There are greater tragedies in life!

You got your knife in a reasonable amount of time (express mail the next day got it to you a day faster than priority mail would have had it been sent the day before). I'd say a day early. How does that make Clayton a deadbeat or a liar?

I know Clayton online and offline...he is a man of honor and does not need me to defend him. I'm curious though, if the tip were no big deal and you are happy with it...why mention it?

That and don't ever try to buy anything off me in the future. You sound like a crybaby.

OWEN,
man im glad that this deal was not me buying a knife from you. i cant own anything that has anything bad attached to it. and i think that its mutual that we wont be doing business with each other ever again. but as per your last comment all i have to say is were adults, so pull up your skirt grab your nuts and get over it.
this is the last that i will post on this matter and i concider this over im my eyes. i refuse to waste any more time on this.

I thought this was an adult forum.
My mistake.

Like I said earlier, things sure have changed around here in the last couple of years.

Well, let's see.
He shipped a day late due to personal stuff so he shipped express overnight instead of priority, at double the cost.
He offered a full refund and I offered to pay your shipping costs.
You dont know the man, who he is or what he does, do not say he is a liar or has no integrity.

this is unfortunate as it seems both of these fellows are "good guys"

i can understand why owen was frustrated and thought clayton was a little flakey...shipping 5+ days late (aug 4th vs july29th, 30th or 31st) and not communicating well does not inspire confidence...probably taking 2 seconds to post an update or an apology would have helped things..even a note in the box would be ok ...

it seems clayton tried to make amends and did an honorable thing by overnighting the knife

the tip damage thing seems petty...especially how it was presented

the petulant behavior on both ends is even more petty

both should apologize to each other ... and get over it

PS this never should have made it to this level

I'm sort of going through the same thing, on a slightly different scale; I sold a red Surefire 3P flashlight to someone here at BladeForums, and upon receipt of the flashlight he noticed a couple of "dings" that I wasn't aware of (I looked it over before I packaged it up, and it looked to be in excellent LN condition to me). I told him that if he's not happy with it, to send it back. That was yesterday, and I haven't heard back from him yet.

On top of that, about 10 days ago, I lost $21 in shipping costs from another trade that didn't work out...(I traded my ATC/Brend Hatchet for some boots that didn't fit, as they weren't the size that I was told that they were...).

Sometimes there are times when no matter what, you just can't do anything right or even "break even".:(.

Sounds like Owen is getting unfairly piled on here; told to get a life, pull up his skirt, etc. Why? Well on one hand it's not cool to get one's integrity questioned online. Owen may have jumped the gun with the insults. On the other hand If I send out $175 and there is bad communication and the item is shipped five days late, my anxiety level would be pretty high. I agree that life may get hectic but if you have time to post and sell, then you have time to cunduct yourself with integrity which doesn't just mean being honest, it means you also follow through with what you commit to. Also just because someone else online knows someone and can vouch for him doesn't necessarily alleviate the frustration. When deals get a little sour the onus is on the late shipper, bad communicator, etc. to just apologize, that is also part of having integrity, even it the offended party has lost his composure. Just my opinion but similar events have happened to me when a shipper sent out a package after receiving payment that didn't get to me. After repeated emails that were unanswered I sent on to him questionong his honor. He replied that he's a LEO and that he got the package back because my full address wasn't on the MO (i.e no Apt. #). It didn't matter that my full address was on our correspondence because he deleted it. It didn't matter that my full address was on the return address because his wife tossed the envelope. I was told that I should just calm down because I was getting a hell of a deal and it's my fault I should have included mt apt. # on the MO. Long story short, when I did get the knife after the seller had to exhaustingly re-ship, making sure to include the original envelope so I could see the post mark, I noticed that the name which the envelope was addressed to was something like Mauro Canchez, despite the fact that my name is my BF handle. Doing things right is also a part of intergrity as is taking responsibilty for oversight.
