Clean a small shark. (Dead critter content)

Awesome brotha. Looks similar to the way I do catfish.

Great pics too. If I was there it would take a small miracle to get me to leave. Where abouts is that? Good lookin pup too.

Two observations:
1: It is shark week
2: I though you shot the shark due to your username;)

Nice thread. Never had small black-tip before. (just bull shark) But Gator meat? Yeah, it is really good, and the easiest thing to clean I have ever encountered.

Now for the stingrays, we hate them around here. We must have caught 200+ last year. (eels are worse though) One of my buddies tried to clean it to eat it, but from what my other fishing buddies told me all he got was TONS of slime off the back, maybe he should have skinned it first?

Two of my friends got stuck last year with a barb. One in the forearm, the other in the ankle. Since I wear boots I was always flipping them over to get the hook out or autopsy one if it swallowed the hook.:D

Nice! Awesome post! I can honestly say I never had shark before! Now this makes me want to go try some.

Heres is another shark abo project for your back burner.

Nice tutorial. I have never eaten small sharks before. Leopards are the smallest I have eaten and they have to be 36". I have always soaked them in milk before they are cooked. I was told this improves the taste but I have never tried it without. The Makos and Threshers are good eating as is. More steaky than most fish. I might have to eat a dogfish next time I catch one to try your method. I have heard some say they are good eating but I am skeptical.

Around here people usually process big bat rays by hammering a sharpened piece of pipe through the wings to make faux-scallops.

Awesome link. I got a couple more today. I'll have to try it. Think I'll skip the pee soaking and spend a little more time scraping.

It is shark week! We caught fifteen from two foot to about 6. But all were hook and line. No more arrowing or spearing sharks around here anymore. Party poopers. Saw lots of rays, and of course the one time I want to get a few they wouldn't hit. The water was so clear today. I cast out in front of stingray that looked about the size of a garbage can lid. A little sand shark shot across and snatched the bait from right in front of him. It was pretty cool sight. I should have taken my big gig and I could have gotten a couple monster stingers. I'll go back later this week. With the ray, you have to fillet the meat from the cartilidge and then the skin. Leaving either will result in bad grub. It's a fair amount of work, probably why most folks won't fool with them. I'm not crazy about bull shark, doesn't compare to the black tips.
I didn't get any gator tags this year, and think it's too late to get em now.

Oh, and I got a pile of blue crabs today too. I can post a little how to on cleaning them and getting to the meat if anyone is interested.

Mmmmmm shark steaks! great pics man, remind me of when I lived down in the gulf.

Yes, I noticed while cutting one open that the cartilidge runs from the spine all the way to the tip. That's why I never tried to clean one myself.

Your also correct, we had until July 6th I think to get our Gator tags. Missed mine too. I think they are 'realatively reasonable" around 200-250 and you can harvest two. (but you probably already know the info already more than I) I did get two last year though.

That would be nice. I am interested in the size of the ones you caught also.

Nice how to. Do you also have so many laws regarding fishing? We have catch limit, what you can catch, local small scale fishery permits to name but a few. Catching sharks here are frowned upon since they are being classified endangered as far as I know by our government......will have to make sure about that tough.

Fishooter, you are living the dream! It's nice to know there is still some Florida left that hasn't been condofied.

Oh yeah, we have more fishing laws than a person could dream about, and seem to be always changing. You have to stay current or you can easily get fined, or if they think your intentionally "poaching" they can take your truck, boat and everything in them. I've seen it happen before.

Even though I have lived all over this state there are tons of places right outside major cities that are void of most people. There is also a ton of land still here. I do know what you mean, before the bubble busted on the housing market, condos were going up at a rate of 1000 per hour it seemed like.

I live in Broward so I'm kinda far from the pristine areas.

Does Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, Big Cypress National Preserve, or Everglades National Park have anything to offer?

(I google mapped Broward for you since I have not lived there)

I have been to the Everglades duck hunting airboat style several times, but never camped there. (I was between 10-14 years old)

Yes. They are great places I used to hunt in Big Cypress in the 80s but I was talking about pristine beaches.
