Clean Lines on Flat Grind - How Hard Can it Be On Thin Material??

I dont follow what you mean by "going finer is not using belts in the sub 40 class " ????
36 and 40 belts are the standard hogging belts. On larger blades you use them to remove the bulk of material. You clean things up with 80 to 120 then normally move out of ceramics.

Thanks. I must have misunderstood a much earlier post/comment.

I am traveling to Atlanta next week (for a week) ... looks like i need to pay a visit to Pops!

Dont forget that higher grit counts make more heat for your 0.080 thick stock try some 60 grit for your first belts and then bring it in with a 80. Followed by a 120 just to clean things up. It's a lot easier to get a good grind with the X weight belts. The process that I am using is to use any belt that is in ok condition for the hogging. With hardened steel and a lot of pressure with the push stick and the grinder running wide open its possible to get a little more life out of the belts do to fracturing more grit. You have to be careful about burning the edge but you can go harder than you would think. Once you get close put on a new or near new sharp belt. Once you are done with the ceramics a lot of people use the 3m "Gator" Trizact CF belts. They don't remove a lot of material but they give a nice surface and they last if you don't damage them. I find that they work best at higher speeds light pressure. They are not water proof. Others use AO j weight with low speed and high pressure. This is the easiest way to burn things in my opinion. What has been working for me is the 3M 372L micro belts. They last longer than AO and are waterproof. I keep them wet with a squirt bottle with soapy water. You will find your own way. Grab a couple of new belts each order and give them a try.

I'd call and see where the business location is now. I don't know if the location has moved since James and Kay retired and the new guys took over.
