I have an O1 knife that I hand sanded to 1000 and have already finished the handle on. Somehow in the days following it has developed a small rust spot on the bevel close to the edge. I got the surface corrosion off but it has already etched into the blade a little. I do hand sand too many blades so I am curious what is the best way to clean this off. Should I just go back to 600 and work it out or should I start at a lower grit?
If the handles were not finished it would be self explanatory.
Is it best to still support the blade while clamping stationary across the handle?
Thanks for any assistance.

Barkeeper's friend found in the cleaning supplies at your local grocery store. Works wonders.

Try 1000 grit and work your way back. If 1000 doesn't do it fast enough, go back to 800. That way you don't take your finish back too far, but still go back in grit far enough that you aren't sanding forever to get the spot out.

It all depends on how deep the rust went. I'd start as high a grit as possible as Lethal mentioned and work my way down. I've got some now that rusted pretty bad while stonewashing that I've got to regrind at 120 grit!

Thanks for the replies.
I have been playing with stone washing as well and I have come to find out you need some kind of soap in the mix. Some use straight borax others have told me dish soap works great too.
