Cleaning a strop?

Any recommendations on how to clean a strop once it starts to turn black from the metal thats been abraded off? It was charged with green chromium oxide from Woodcraft.

There is really no need to clean it.

I have used saddle soap or mineral oil on heavily loaded strops.

Non-pumice, waterless hand cleaner works too.
