cleaning carbon steel blades

What is the best material, solution or method to clean the tarnish from my carbon steel blades?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by tarnish Bill. I guess flitz metal polish or never dull.

Mild tarnish? Like a surface oxidation layer?

Or more like iron oxide, i.e. rust?

It's not rust, but discoloration of the steel. Unlike the stainless these get discolored easily and I wondered if I could clean them up with something.

If you're talking about patina in the steel I wouldn't try to clean it off. Thats part of the character of a carbon steel blade as it ages.
