Cleaning Ceramic Rods?

I use a 3M ScotchBrite pad with either Comet or Barkeeper's Friend. Generally, I'll use the Comet first. Oftentimes, that gets the job done. If a little more 'oomph' is needed, then I'll use the Barkeeper's. It's made with oxalic acid, which relies on a chemical reaction to do the cleaning. For this reason, you do need to be careful with it. It's great on ceramics, and will remove rust from steel, but it also will damage other materials if you're not careful. Make sure to read the directions and precautions on the can. And, wear some rubber gloves. That'll save a lot of wear & tear on your hands.

Green Scotchbrite cloth and BarKeepers Friend. I use gloves. I rinse with very hot water, and the stones dry right away. I figure in case there are any fines or other metal deposits left in the stone, a quick dry is best.

I've used Comet, Barkeeper's Friend, Scotchbrite pads, etc., but this is the best I've found for cleaning the rods. MUCH easier than all the others!

For me a couple drops of very light oil like, Kroil, Rem oil, Liquid Wrench, or WD40 floats the particle right off. one swipe with a rag and their clean as new.

I have these too, and I use them for a quick cleaning when I don't want to get out the gloves and scrub thoroughly with BKF. I think the oxalic acid in BKF can go deeper than the AG Russell "erasers" and I think the oxalic acid in BKF gets the rods cleaner.
