Cleaning Damascus Bolsters?

I just got an older smallish custom pocket knife with Damascus bolsters and blade. I'm wondering about giving it a go over perhaps with Flitz or? There are some fine scratches I am hoping to remedy. How long would it take for the patina to reappear? I'm not sure I want it to be too clean and shiny. Thank you in advance.

BEWARE of using Flitz or other metal polishes on darkly-etched damascus. The polish will remove a lot, or maybe all, of the dark oxide from the etching, so you'll lose a lot of those highlights. I found that out the hard way in using some metal polish (Simichrome) on a darkly-etched damascus Buck blade, years ago. The grain pattern of my damascus blade is still visible, but a much more subtle grey now.
