i know guys, this subject has been beat to death, but it is a important one! last week i noticed that my edc was getting "slow on the draw" to speak. it didnt have the regular snap when opening and closing, and my heart dropped thinking the spring had shot its wad!! even when i oiled it, it was still slow and weak. then i found out what it was!! me and some of the fellas here at work have setting rabbit boxes, and baiting them with apples. i always pull out my knife and cut up some for the boxes, and sneak me a few slices too. appears that the apple juices were running down into my knife, and it was forming a "gunky" mess around the blade. regular cleaning wasnt cutting it, and oil didnt seem to be able to get through the stickyness. so heres what i did. i opened the knife up and sprayed some "orange cleaner" we use here at work into it, and worked the blade back and forth until it felt looser than before. it was amazing to see the junk that cme out from the spring!! i blew it out with a airhose, the put oil all inside and gave it a good going over again. now the knife is back "walking & talking" like it should!! just goes to show u that u cant always see the junk building up causing a knife o malfunction. i kicked myself in the rump quite hard for neglecting my knife the way i did.

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to try that "orange cleaner".

ii will find out the exact name of it and post it in a few. actually brought 2 more knies to clean today!!

ok waynorth, the cleaner is in a clear gallon jug with a blue label, its called "CITRUS" cleaner and degreaser. its made by "zep commercial". i asked my supervisor where we get it from and he said lowes or home depot both carry it. cleaned 2 more knives with it this morning and noticed that it does a great job on rust too. this stuff has to be diluted wih water for it to work well, and like i said, i use it then put a great amount of oil on the knife after i have cleaned all the cleaner off. hope it works for eveeryone like it has me. i used it on a stag case, no ill effects there, but on a red-boneed handled case, i seen some bleeding of the dye on a white cloth, but couldnt see it on the knife. on my 885UH, there were no ill effects. i have noticed with alot of cleaners, they leave a "tacky" feel, this one leaves a oily feel, but i would make sure it is all off thde knife then oil it with some 3in1. here i use white oil, its a type of sewing machine oil, and is very readily available here at work. hope this helps guys!

I use my CV Case Sodbuster Jr for an apple a night. When I have that issue come up, I have a bottle of Gunk heavy duty Silicone Spray lubricant sitting here. A little of that will get the apple juice buildup out and give the SNAP back.
