Hi, I think I need to clean my Lansky diamond stones. What is the best way to do this? I have been using the Lansky honing oil on the stones all along. Not sure this was the best thing to do.

I usually put a few drops of the oil on the stone, rub it with my fingertip to build a slurry, and then wipe it clean with a rag. It seems to work pretty well. I've heard things like using a stiff-bristled brush or Scotch Brite pad but haven't found them necessary yet.

I read somewhere that those Mr. Clean Magic Eraser pads work well.
Haven't tried it though.

I could be wrong, heck, wouldn't be the first time, but my best guess is that those Magic Eraser will produce tiny little bits of material that could fill in the dips on the stone and make it work worse. Does that make sense? Like I said, could be wrong, but that's what I would think might happen. Better to follow manufacturer's directions (most, anyway) and use detergent and a stiff bristled brush. Doesn't take a hard scrubbing either, just lightly, and let the gentle action and the lather remove the worn off grit.

That's the treatment both my stones get and they're old, and fine.
