Cleaning micarta handles?

Thought I'd post a few before and afters for people wondering how well cleaning micarta work. All I did was use warm water and some anti-bacterial hand soap with a toothbrush.

Come to think of it, just having tinkered a little around my vintage Lancia - I think brake-disc cleaner would work awesome as well. Just about the most effective degreaser on Earth.

Edit: You Yanks' cars of course don't have disc-brakes yet, so probably not available over there.

ive had mine pretty filthy... it doesnt even take soap to wash them. you just wipe the handles under water with your hands and when they dry they have that light color again

As for funny smells. I had a job once that involved emptying a cold room filled with Green waste ( vege scraps, plate scraps, kitchen crud) that was only emptied once a week. The smell was impressive. The only way I found to get rid of the smell was with Mouthwash. Yeah so they had a dose of "minty freshness" for a couple hours but if I didn't do that the smell lasted a couple days. Since my girlfriend didn't work at the same place, I had to get rid of the "fishy" smell before I went home. Ooooo bad taste joke, didn't help the sandwiches either.

dont think you should be so worried about how pretty an outdoor knife is

I'm not so much concerned about it being pretty. I'm a bit of a germ-a-phobe and the thought of the grime on and in the micarta is a bit sickening. Plus I just like to keep things as clean as reasonably possible.

I use very hot water and whatever you're using for dish washing liquid. Then towel dry or use a hair dryer.
