Cleaning/Restoring Axes Help

Thanks for the tips, I will probably start out on the 2 hander with no markings and see what I can do with it.

But I won't be able to do anything for a couple weeks because my dad is having surgery and I will be helping my family around the house and helping him with anything he needs.

Also 2 more questions, anyone know about that American Beauty hatchet? Also all the axes are around 1-2 centimeters off or the top of the handle? Any recommendations on how to fix it?

actually I just noticed that on the one Hatchet from my first set of pics with the octagonal hammer on it had some writing but I can't make much out.

Here is a pic of the writing on it. There appears to be two lines of words but the second is impossible to make out.

Thanks for the identification so far.

Any recommendation on what type of sandpaper to use and does anyone know of a good video I can watch to show me how to remove the rust properly?

also any info on the hatchet with American Beauty on it?

thanks for the link, i will look into that but I don't understand any of the axe terms like Kerf or Eye.

also I still can't find out anything on the American Beauty hatchet.

The eye is the hole in the axe head, where the handle goes.
The kerf is the slot that's sawn into the top of the handle, where the wedge goes.

Thanks for the links, I will try to memorize the different parts of the axe now. and thanks for the history of the American Beauty.

but does anyone know if American Beauties are good or amazing or rare? and I need to see if I can find a youtube video on how to remove the rust properly.

sorry for all the questions that I keep thinking up.

Mason's hammer. Some folks don't like the Permabond. They stay hung a long time, though.

I do the vinegar method but 24 hours is enough most of the time. as your vinegar gets more used, it takes longer. I hit it with a hand wire brush with the garden hose running across it. that will take away what has been loosened. If one day isn't enough it goes back in for a second. When it gets weak enough that it takes 3 days to do what fresh does in one I dump it and get fresh. It has a lot of rust in it and still somewhat acidic so be careful where you put it. I have found that my 5th grade English teacher has a large flower bed, so that is where I usually go with it :)

Also, after vinegar and brush I dry with paper towels and get all the black stuff off too.

wire wheel on a bench grinder will clean it right up.:D
if you don't have a bench grinder get one;). handiest tool i have in the shop use it almost everyday for cleaning up rusty tools

a wire cup and a $ 1/2 inch angle grinder works also.
