Cleaning satin INFI?!

For those non-scratchy cleanups, I use Mother's mag & aluminum polish.

I had the pleasure of meeting snwbrder202 earlier today to complete a small knife deal, and I took a few other knives for him to check out. Before I went, I quickly checked all of the knives I planned to bring. When I pulled my NMFBMLE out of the sheath here at home to check it before I went to meet him, I was a bit surprised at what I found... When I broke it in for pix posted a long while back, I dirtied up the blade, so I washed it off, and must have slipped it back into the cardboard sheath before it was completely dry... In addition to the sap marks that didn't come off, there was oxidation, and dare I say it... Rust! Not severe rust, but a few spots nonetheless. :o

...So I grabbed the polish, put a little on a paper towel and went to work on the knife. Within 3-5 minutes, I wiped the blade clean with a soft cloth, and was prepared to do the other side until I remembered this thread he posted... So I left the other side as is and took it to the meet like that... A great before & after.

I just snapped some pix to post here so y'all can check this out too...

AFTER (and this was the worst of both sides):

You can just make out the faint outline of the worst area on this side, and how much of it is gone. When I go to clean the other side tomorrow, another 2 minutes on this side will remove the final traces.

Damn nice to meetcha ya, Snwbrdr202!! :)

Post reported.:p

Seriously though, I usually just use a plastic dish brush and some detergant. Some gum cutter from the auto store (sprayed on a rag) or goo-b-gone should loosen the tough stuff... then repeat with the plastic dish brush and soap.

I do this also, and lately I've been following up with Flitz. Jaxx's suggestion of the Mother's sounds similar to Flitz...I've not used it, but the end results look more or less similar depending how many applications you use. If it's really scuffed, 3 or 4 applications of Flitz and some light buffing with #0000 steel wool will bring back a great finish. After reading these other posts I'm thinking Scotchbrite pads would work quite similarly to steel wool.

Man, all I ever used was some dishwashing soap, water, and a Scotchbrite pad. I give a wipe with a Tough Cloth or squirt of WD-40 for storage or sheathing. I have not experienced the stubborn, sappy wood chunks on the satin blades nearly as much as the coared of DC blades do.

Meh, just use it and let it go. If you notice any sort of reddish rust forming hit it with some flitz/mothers/whatever polish.

ok, here's how i do it... really

go to a hardware store, get the 12x8" sheets of green scotchbrite, strop your satin finished blade straight, firmly and anally on that, spine leading, edge trailing. it works

Exactly right.

Jaxx, the pleasure was mine my friend. I took your advice and got the Mothers polish, but I have not dirtied my INFI...yet! The difference in your NMSFNO LE was night and day though; the one side you could see your reflection and the other looked like it gutted an orc :barf: Can't wait to break in some satin!!!
