Cleaning up Plunges from File Jig

Hello all, I am currently still making knives without a grinder (gotta keep saving!) using a file jig like Aaron Gough showed. One problem I continually have is messy plunge lines, even if I take great care in the setup and they start at the same spot they rarely match in shape. I'm assuming it is a bit if difference in technique (pressure on file, etc) when I switch sides. The real question I have is are there any tips to clean up these plunges? I have tried using small round files, needle files, etc, but always end up going below the plane of the bevel and leaving a groove (hopefully that makes sense?)

Is this a practice and patience thing, or am I missing an easy solution or handy trick to clean up and even out the plunges? below is my most recent blade right off the file jig.

thank you, Dan.

If you rounded the corners of your file like Aaron suggests in his video, you may not have done it exactly the same on each side. This will give you different shaped plunges since each one is cut in with the opposite side of the file.
I had the same problem. And still do to a point, but I managed to get them close enough that by the time I am finished hand sanding everything looks fine.

Why not get a Nicholson 2 round edge file? It's a flat mill bastard with radiused edges.

E. Carlson, Could you pm me a link to where you bought it?
