Cleaning up Scharade 1080T

Bill, you are abrasive, ill-tempered and stubborn. I think Clint Eastwood made a movie about you.

Vinegar might work for removing rust ( seems like it's actually just replacing one oxidation with another )

This is exactly what vinegar does. It is an acid, and reacts with rust. It will oxidise the steel, but not until it eats through the rust.
Bleach actually works just as good. I prefer the tabs to liquid in this case.
Don't mix bleach and vinegar together or you will die.

Here's a couple of youtube videos (not mine). Rusted steel vs vinegar and the result.

Cast Iron skillet and Mora knife

Angle Iron vs Coke

Ill tempered and stubborn, no.
Abrasive-maybe to those who refuse to understand. I only recommend that which will do no harm.
"Bill DeShivs told me to clean my knife with vinegar, and it turned BLACK!"---- You may not see a problem with this, but I do.
There are Youtube videos showing how to make machineguns. That doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Now we're on the same page.

If someone damages their knife based on advice you gave them, it will reflect badly on your reputation, and your business. I have no problem with this.

On the other hand, I have no such interests to protect. I'll tell someone what has worked for me no matter how dangerous it can be.
What they do with that information is their choice. It's not my responsibility to protect people from buffers, chemicals, and sharp edges.

Frankly, if a person doesn't have their own initiative to research it and learn a thing or two about it before trying it, there's no stopping someone like that from fucking something up anyway.
